Silvio Berti (born March 14th, 1943) is a retired member of the Chamber of Representatives who served as Chairperson of the Malgravean Green Party between 1985 and 2005. Silvio is known for transforming the Green Party into a major electoral force, and remains highly popular within Malgrave in spite of his decision to retire from frontline politics.

Early life and career

Silvio Berti was born in Portmon on the 14th of March, 1943. At this point of time Portmon was a rather settlement in the country, as planned works to transform the minor fishing settlement into a serious city had not yet begun due to major delays caused by the outbreak of the civil war. Silvio's parents worked in the fishing industry, with both of his parents maintaining a series of crabbing pots located across the coast.

In addition to helping out his parents, Silvio was also heavily involved within his local Free Democratic Youth (Malgrave) branch and helped organise hiking trips around the mountain range. It was expected that Silvio would opt to serve in the Royal Navy, however, he bucked these expectations when he settled upon service with the Territorial Defence Force (Malgrave).

Territorial Defence Force

After completing basic training with the Territorial Defence Force, Silvio was stationed in Pakosc and underwent additional training in relation in combat engineering due to a need of frontline units with engineering capabilities at that time. Between 1961 and 1963 Silvio took part in Operation Shield, Operation Hammer and Operation Bastion, a series of military engagements initiated by the Territorial Defence Force in an attempt to secure the Pakosc region from potential attacks from the National Workers' Republic.

All of these attacks were ultimately successful, however, the losses sustained by the Territorial Defence Force during these operations were astonishingly high and disputes over low-pay and poor living conditions led the TDF to organising a general strike, with the matter only being resolved after the government agreed to a package of wage increases and quality of life improvements to military bases across the country.

Silvio's period of conscription ended in 1963, however, he opted to remain in the Territorial Defence Force to oversee improvements being made to local facilities and quash rumours of local corruption, with the Sergeant being attached to help the 2nd Southern Training Regiment. In 1964 Silvio remained with his students and took part in the Battle of Pakosc and earned the Asola Medal for actions undertaken during the battle, although, wounds sustained during this time meant that he had to accept an honourable discharge.

Malgravean State Owned Rail Transportation, Infrastructure and Research Corporation

After leaving the Territorial Defence Force, Silvio started working for the Malgravean State Owned Rail Transportation, Infrastructure and Research Corporation (MSORTIRC) as an engineer involved in the expansion and modernisation of highspeed rail in the country. While working for MSORTIRC, Silvio started to gain a greater understanding for the environment, and decided to join the Malgravean Green Party.

Silvio was first elected to the Chamber of Representatives in the 1974 Malgravean Emergency General Election, as part of the growing green movement in the country and quickly became known for his outspoken and down to earth nature, with his speeches often being repeated on MBC News.

In the aftermath of the 1985 Malgravean General Election and the resignation of Luisa Pavone, Silvio was elected by the membership to replace her. As one of the few elected representatives that had not attended university Silvio's election was seen as somewhat of a gamble by media outlets, however, his personable nature and his notable military career meant that he quickly proved himself popular with the average voter.

Shortly after becoming leader Silvio engaged in a tour to connect with more voters on a personal level, with a special focus on territories that had recently re-joined Malgrave following the conclusion of the civil war. Silvio's personal touch is credited with helping secure the continued rise of the Green Party, especially, during the Lost Decade when such a tactic was seen as risky due to the terrorism threat of this era.

Silvio resigned as Chair of the Green Party in 2009. He was replaced by Caroline Keller.
