The Free Democratic Youth is a youth organisation in Malgrave. It is presently the second largest youth organisation in the country (following the Gabriel Narutowicz Pioneers) with a reported 87% of 14-25 year olds being involved in the group.

History

In the years following the Great Exodus, a prolonged series of hardship engulfed Malgrave, as the country struggled to pull itself together and shortages of essential goods were quite common. At this time, the country was also going through immense political strife as elements from society dissatisfied with the decisions being made by Prime Minister Jozef Wajda agitated for radical reforms and strikes were a common sight.

In response, Jozef Wajda wished to create an organisation which would act to heal the growing divides in Malgravean society, form a common identity and provide an educational and entertaining environment for children to grow up in, especially, as the problems impacting children was a major cause for agitation at the time.

As Gabrial Narutowicz, an engineer and politician was being laid as the foundation stone for the Pioneers it was decided that promoting democratic ideals would further the cause of unity and dissuade potential recruits from joining undemocratic organisations, after a short competition the Free Democratic Youth was chosen as the future name of the organisation.

Like the GNP the FDY has enjoyed large scale support from successive governments and enjoys cooperation with higher-education establishments and various state-owned companies, a privilege that allows them to continue educational trips, concerts and holidays to current members

Membership

Like the GNP membership of the Free Democratic Youth is completely voluntary however the continued perks of the organisation and the benefits membership has to enrolment in universities, future employment and potential political activity means that this is extremely rare. In some circles it is also feared that refusing promotion into the organisation will indirectly harm them when the time comes to apply for positions in universities or state-owned companies however the presence of non-FDJ members in political and state role means that these fears are often discarded as nonsense.

Platform

Since foundation the Free Democratic Youth has worked to create a common Malgravean identity and heavily promotes the cause of social solidarity between all members.
