The Autrichean Uprising was an insurgency and uprising instigated by Autrichean sympathisers in western Illusia and Neverendia. It was fought between the Southeast Anean nations of Illusia and Neverendia and Memester, against the unrecognised monarchy known as the Principality of New Illuverendia.

Realising that peaceful plans were not going to work, royal pretender Leonard Spencer d'Autriche, a hardline Autrichean sympathiser, named himself as the successor to Priscilla, and on the early hours of 26 October 2056, Maithwaite was taken over, and other neighbouring cities. This sparked the first battles of the Autrichean Uprising, in which both sides- the New Illuverendian side being called Autricheans, and the royal government being called Alyssanians.
On the first stages of the uprising, the United Kingdom of Illusia and Neverendia lost Maithwaite, Gloucester, Praetaum, and Lewistown. Allenes and Hennewick fell soon after, but then the Royal Illuverendian Armed Forces and the Schwarzbrigade (SB) launched three attacks deep within Autrichean territory- notably the precision bombing in Maithwaite, and two attacks in Beylough, specifically the attack on the hamlet's factory outlet and the Beylough railway sabotage. In these daring operations, the SB also evacuated the hamlet.
