Alyssa of Illuverendia (Alyssa Florentine; born 7 September 2029), alternatively known by her modest name Alyssa Midford, is the incumbent Queen of Illuverendia, having acceded through a declaration by the previous government.
Alyssa was born in White Plains, as the eldest and first child of the noble-turned-dictator Mary Catherine Midford and Illuverendian soldier Reinhart von Eisner during the Stratocratic era. Despite the country's totalitarianist state of affairs and being aligned militarily, her parents raised her on a noble lifestyle. As Illusia and Neverendia had absolute primogeniture rules, she was set to succeed her mother in terms of nobility. After an incident which led to the death of her mother in 2042 and saw the end of the stratocracy, Alyssa declared herself to be the succeeding leader upon her 18th birthday, in which she took power on 7 September 2047 as planned.
Upon her ascension, a widespread reform popularly called the Midford rapprochement took place, in which Alyssa personally oversaw the expungement of all Stratocratic ideals. She held herself accountable for all the totalitarian actions of her predecessor, which made her popular to her subjects. She oversaw the assembly and convening of the Herrscherrat, the first Illuverendian legislative body since 1900, and the revival of Illuverendian peerages which was the subject of extreme critical acclaim.
Alyssa is also the current head of the House of Midford.
Early life
The former Crown Princess of Alcott-Midford was born in 7 September 2029 at the Syringa Hospital and Medical Institute in White Plains. Alyssa was born during the Stratocracy era. Her father was Reinhart von Eisner, an Illuverendian ex-noble from the Eisner family and also a private (Gefreiter) in the Illuverendian Army. Her mother was Mary Catherine Midford, the reigning supreme commander of the Stratocracy, and the former head of the House of Midford.
Former nobles, preferably high Illuverendian Armed Forces officials of aristocratic descent who had their privileges and titles stripped after the Illuverendian Revolution, and also still had extensive noble links (albeit in secrecy), speculated that had the royal system still be in effect, Alyssa would be de jure the crown princess of the Alcott-Midford branch. Even Mary's vice commander, Chihaya Miyamizu, speculated the same.
Alyssa was then followed with a younger sibling, that being Wolfgang, on 21 September 2030. Mary and Reinhart raised both of their children in a noble lifestyle, in contrary to the Stratocracy's norms. In 2041, Mary and Reinhart divorced, leaving the two under the care of Mary, and with her other aides. The fracturing of the family left Alyssa, in her own words, "saddened, but it had to happen".
Mary's death
On Alyssa's thirteenth birthday (7 September 2042), at her wishes, the divorced couple showed up together. While it made Alyssa happy, Mary was not pleased seeing Reinhart again. After the party and festivities, the two argued, in which Mary committed suicide afterwards. Alyssa saw her mother dead first, and broke down to tears. The news of Mary's death particularly hit the Stratocracy hard a day after, with many signifying it as the fall of the stratocracy. Her younger sibling Wolfgang received the news a day after and also was mortally affected, his 12th birthday being in two weeks.
Orphan under Takanashi's care
Knowing that Reinhart may attempt to take custody of the now-orphaned Midford siblings and subject them to the same misery their mother suffered, one of Mary's aides, Azusa Takanashi, interfered, and took adoptive custody of the two. Takanashi transferred them from White Plains away into her personal isolation facilities in Nordenhaus, where the two were schooled and indoctrinated.
The indoctrination by Takanashi triggered Alyssa's vendetta against her father. However, this caused a sibling rift between her and Wolfgang, with the relationship of the two continuously downgrading as time passed. Wolfgang tried to change her but to no avail, and Alyssa saw her younger brother more of a "tool" to her vendetta.
Role in the Great Hiatus
During the period they were under tutelage of Azusa, the Stratocracy had began to crumble. The Stratocratic Clique, in which Takanashi was part of, began emergency measures to keep the nation in order and to prevent a second Illuverendian revolution. The Clique wanted to continue the legacy of Mary by assigning Alyssa as the supreme commander, or making Chihaya Miyamizu the supreme commander, since she was Mary's second in command.
Usurping the Illuverendian leadership
These aforementioned plans failed to formulate, however. Takanashi had been informed prior, by Alyssa herself, that she vows to "retake the country by storm" and reassume control of the leadership. When Takanashi asked her if she will follow her mother's legacy, Alyssa respectfully denied, and pledged that she revives the country's monarchy - "as it should have been". Although a member of the Clique, Takanashi recognised the girl's desires.
In 2046, Takanashi and Alyssa stated their intentions. Alyssa challenged the Clique - she boldly stated her desire to end the Stratocracy by reviving the Illuverendian monarchy, and forcibly removing all Stratocracy-related ideals and officials within her new government. Realising that saving Mary's legacy was hopeless, the Clique submitted to her plan, and made a televised announcement that on 7 September 2047, Alyssa's 18th birthday, a new government would take over Illusia and Neverendia.
Reign
Accession
As planned, on her 18th birthday, Alyssa marched to Enigmastadt Palace, which had been closed down and was in a nearly-decrepit condition for so many years, and held her coronation there. Her coronation was televised across Illuverendia, which many tuned in to, as many had been looking for a significant change. Her coronation was met with thunderous cheers, with many chanting "the supreme commander is dead, long live the Queen!", an alteration of the famous phrase. Effectively, the Stratocratic Clique was disbanded.
Shortly after she assumed duties as the Queen of Illuverendia, Alyssa ordered a rehabilitation of the palace, which had been damaged by a lack of maintenance for a long time. Ekelepoche architecture were still present, in which she also had removed. The costly rehabilitation, part of her first reforms, was finished in 2049, conforming to the Alyssanian era architecture and standard. Alyssa also revived royal privileges and titles, these included former high Illuverendian Armed Forces officials, who were very pleased as they managed to return to their normal lives once again.
Prolific Illuverendian noble families, like the House of Brandt, were also the ones that applauded Alyssa's policies. The family had also been one of Alyssa's idolised royal families, in which she personally remarked that "my rule will bring this country into another golden age just like my predecessor Franziska".
