The 2023 Kievan Rus general election was held on Sunday, 23 July 2023, to elect the 314th convocation of the United Kingdom of Kyievska Rus. All 675 seats in the Supreme Parliament were up for election. The elections took place as a result of the creation of the Council of Lords and the dissolution of Parliament by King Jaroslav II on July 13, 2023.
The government of Lilja Frigurson formed after the September 2021 Spanish general election consisted of a left-wing coalition between the Union Party (UP) and Azgedal Shilaik Democra Party (ASDP). The parties had to form a coalition because none had a simple majority to be elected.
The early elections add to a moment of instability in the parties that led to the dissolution of the coalition and the rise of the Liberal and Conservative parties.
On July 26, in the extraordinary assembly of the Supreme Parliament, the elected deputies took office, and in less than 2 hours the president of the supreme parliament was elected in what is known as the fastest election since the year 1818.
Artem Doubek was elected as the President of Parliament by 438 votes in favor and 177 against, with 60 abstentions. Likewise, the liberal party is consolidated as the most important in the country, winning 4 of the 9 presidencies of the regions, being Ukraine, Czechoslovakia, Belarus, and Poland. In Azgedal the Union Party won; in Bardolan and Moldova the conservative party won; in Trikruw the regional Revent Parta party, affiliated with the Liberal party, won; and in the Baltic Union the Baltijas Demokrātiskā savienība party won.
Bohdan Mikolenko is expected to be re-elected to his 3rd term as president on September 5, 2023 at the extraordinary session of the council of ministers in the Zymovyy Palace.
Background
On July 13, 2023, King Jaroslav II signed decree number № 235-2023 modifying the parliamentary system of Kiyevska Rus to a bi-cameral form, creating the Council of Lords which is composed of Lords of the various Kyievska Rus regions. This as a consequence of request number 283 of the Supreme Parliament in conjunction with the Council of Ministers. The modification of the parliamentary system led to the early dissolution of the powers of parliamentarians, setting the elections for July 23, 2023. This has been the biggest change in the Kyievska Rus' system of government since the 1996 changes.
Electoral sistem
The Supreme Parliament of Kyievska Rus is made up of 675 deputies elected for a period of 5 years, unless their powers are terminated by the King. The deputies of the supreme parliament are elected individually through open lists.
Candidates had until 18 July to submit documents to the Central Election Commission of Kyievska Rus to register as candidates for the position of deputy of the Supreme Parliament. On 20 July 2023, the Central Election Commission ended its registration process. It registered 5,845 candidates for the elections. 3,171 candidates in the single-member constituencies and 2,674 candidates in the single nationwide constituency with 9 parties.
