Tírnaill is a Caldish video game developer and publisher founded in 2008 by Micheál MacPhersein, best known for creating the popular independent game Forgecraft. Forgecraft is a sandbox and was fully released in 2010. The game remains widely popular internationally. The companies headquarters are located in Spálgleann, Caldia.

History

Tírnaill was founded in April 2008 by Micheál MacPhersein, who was developing Forgecraft alongside Ruadhrí Ó Cuillinn. MacPhersein sought to develop the game independent of the video game industry as he wanted to maintain creative liberties he believed would otherwise be lost. In late 2008, the alpha version of Forgecraft was first made available to the public. The game was officially released in 2010 and was received positively internationally, rising the company to prominence.

After the success of Forgecraft, the company began developing its second game, Runes, which it released in 2013. It also released Curia in 2016, which was Tírnaill's first free to play game.

MacPhersein parted ways with the company in 2015, but still remains highly influential in Tírnaill's activities and further development for Forgecraft.

Name

The name Tírnaill comes from the name for the realm of the gods in Ghaillish paganism, Tír nAill which means "Otherland". MacPhersein said he chose the name because he wanted players to feel as if his work took them to another world.
