The Knesset is the unicameral legislature of the State of Tikva, established the same day the State formally was declared sovereign in 1950. The total membership consists of 120 MKs, a number derived from scripture within the earliest sections of the Setgvek. Members are selected by their respective parties and voters select the party at the ballot box. The term of each member is 4 years but due to the unstable nature of Tikvan politics, many Knesset sessions do not last the entire term. The party (and its coalition partners) who are able to secure a majority of the chamber are given the right to form a Government by the President. The leader of the next-largest party is the Leader of the Opposition. The Knesset is located in Ayalon, capital of Tikva.
