Blurred Image is the debut studio album of the Juznik singer-songwriter Daina Venskutė. The album was released through Velvet Records on February 27, 2015. Venskutė co-wrote and co-produced the album with Giedrius Antanavičius. The album debuted at number 11 on the Juznik albums chart and slowly built it's way up reaching number one in April 2015, a position it held for one week.
Blurred Image received acclaim from critics and won numerous awards. It's first two singles, Blurred Image and Quiet Nights reached number 7 and 11 respectively on the Juznik charts. The album has sold over 250,000 copies in Juznia since it's release in 2015.
Background
Venskutė has stated that the album "chronicles the journey I have taken from being born to a refugee of the Hytekojuznik civil war to reaching where I am now. It follows my highs and lows including my father abandoning my family and the pain that forced onto my mother, my own struggles in the music industry and finding that person you think could be your special someone."
The album was recorded in between 2013 and summer 2014. Following the success of the lead single, Blurred Image, the albums release was delayed in the hopes of allowing for it's next single to be more successful. The follow-up single, Quiet Nights, was also a moderate success and it was decided the album would be released in February 2015.
Critical Reception
The album was released to critical acclaim. One critic called it "a masterpiece" and said that it was "sharing a story told many times before but this time finally told in a way that encapsulates all the pain, the joy, the highs and lows, the magic, the sense of community. No-one has ever managed to tell such a story in such a way before."
Commercial peformance
The album sold 4,500 copies in it's first week debuting at number eleven on the Juznik album chart. Over the following weeks it slowly rose up the charts charting in the positions 10, 8, 7, 4, 2 and then eventually hitting number one. By the end of 2015 the album had sold 209,000 copies in Juznia. It was one of the best-selling albums of that year being beaten only by Gatzke Stienstra's 1989 and Stienstra's collaboration with Daile, 2009.
Outside of Juznia the album sold 40,000 copies primarily in Hytekia, Tudonia and Dulebia.
