The Imperial Navy of Temuair (Aisling: Mariña Imperial do Temuair) is one of three branches of the Armed Forces of the Temuair Empire and is tasked with the defense of Imperial waters and vessels at sea. It is the smallest and of three branches, and is designed, primarily, to provide defense against seaborne invasion of the Empire or harassment by foreign forces, as well as anti-piracy operations and humanitarian assistance during times of crisis both within Temuair and abroad.

Vessels belonging to the Imperial Navy are referred to as the Buque Naval de Aisling (Aisling Naval Vessel), or BNA.

History

Naming conventions

Naming conventions for Aisling naval vessels were established by the Ministry of Defense following the 1910 Reformation. The Ministry of Defense had also proposed to change the designation for Aisling naval vessels from the traditional BNA, standing for for Aisling Naval Vessel, to INV for Imperial Naval Vessel. However Emperador Neira I vetoed this decision, stating that it divested the spirit of the nation and its people from the vessels.

Vessel classes are always cities or other geographic locations.

Any vessel of any class may be named in honor of a deceased prominent citizen or member of the Armed Forces.

• Aircraft Carrier: Aircraft carriers are named for former Aisling Emperadors and may also be named for former members of the Chamber of Burgesses or Chamber of Demagogues
• Battleship: Battleships and dreadnoughts had been named for former Kings of Temuair prior to the 1915 revision of naming conventions. No battleships were built following the naming convention changes, and the four Loures-class battleships in service were not renamed.
• Battlecruiser and Cruiser: Battlecruiser are named for heroic attributes. Example:
• Amphibious Assault Ship and Amphibious Command Ship: Named for important battles in Aisling history. Example:
• Destroyer: Destroyers are named for predators and birds of prey. Example:
• Frigate: Frigates are named for weather phenomena. Example:
• Corvette: Corvettes are named for attributes associated with constituion. Example:
• Coastal destroyer: Coastal destroyers are named for rivers and other bodies of water. Example:
• Patrol boat: Named for attributes associated with grace. Example:
• Fast attack craft: Named for attributes associated with dexterity. Example:
• Submarine: Submarines prior to 1996 were referred to by their hull number, (S-94, S-124). However, with the commissioning of the first Undine-class submarine, the Imperial Navy authorized submarines to receive names for the first time. Submarine names are almost always associated with death, shadows or the underworld. Example:
• Mine countermeasures vessel: These vessels are named for attributes often associated with luck. Example:
• Support Vessels such as seaplane tenders and replenishment oilers are generally named for gemstones or precious metals. Example:
• Hospital ship: These vessels are named for peaceful words or phrases. Example:
• Training ship: These vessels are named for words associated with teaching and the classroom: Example:

Organization

Naval Aviation Command

Naval Aviation Command is tasked with operating land, and more recently, carrier based aircraft. These aircraft conduct a variety of missions, including fleet defense, anti-submarine warfare operations, maritime patrol, and search and rescue.

Naval aviators go through basic and advanced flight training with the Imperial Air Force.
