Etymology
The Carolinian Islands are named after King Charles of Estmere, who reigned during the conquest of the islands and named the colonial possession after himself. The native name "Tuarikai" comes from the first explorations by Estmerish settlers and anthropologists, who had asked the Carolinian natives the name of the islands, recording it as "Too-ah-ree-kah-ee" based on native syllable boundaries (in the Carolinian language, Tuarikai is five syllables).
History
Prehistory
Colonization by the Matambing Kingdom
By the late 15th century, the Matambing Kingdom in Bahia and Coius had already expanded into present-day Terangau. Through a series of wars and treaties, the Carolinian Islands were ceded to Matambing. [TBC]
