The Legislature of the Kingdom of Kapuku (Kapukuan: Ahaolelo Ke Aupuni Kapuku) is the bicameral legislature of the Kingdom of Kapuku. The royal legislature was first proposed in Meakhani's Kingdom but was never fully introduced. The official legislature was set in the 1532 Constitution. The legistlature was put into place to promote democracy in Kapuku and bring the people back to power. Prior to this the monarchs ruled under a noble diet.

Structure

The Legislature of Kapuku uses a bicameral system and consists of a lower House of Representatives and an upper House of Nobles as provided for under the The Constitution of Kapuku.

House of Nobles

The members of the upper House of Nobles (Hale ʻAhaʻōlelo Aliʻi) are appointed by the Keaka Mulopi II with the advice of the lower House of Represntitives. The House of Nobles also serves as the court of impeachment for any royal official. Members are usually Kapukan nobles and royal or wealthy individuals. The position has no salary. The House of Nobles consists of the King of Kapuku plus ten women and ten men.

House of Representatives

The members of the lower House of Representatives (Hale ʻAhaʻōlelo Makaʻāinana) are elected by popular vote in each district in Kapuku. Revenue-oriented bills are issued through the House of Representatives, and it also serves as the "grand jury" of the Kingdom.

History

Before the fall of Meakhani's Kingdom, a legislature was proposed. This greatly interested Meakhani be he denied it as he thought it would give the people too much power and threaten his position. After the liberation of Kapuku in 1534 AC, the noble diet was created. It served as the "legislature" for Kapuku until 1536 when a coup d'etat overtrough the absolute monarchy and established the current government of Kapuku.
