The Gryllus class was designed as hit and run missile frigate, making it unique among other vessels in the Confederate navy. This new class of frigates incorporates a number of stealth technologies. meant to enable the craft to get as close to enemy formations of positions without notice, and has an advanced sonar system to allow it to detect potential enemy submarines. In addition to these measures, the vessel packs a mean punch, in the form of eighteen Klub-N 3M-54TE1 missiles, positioned in the 6 x 3 VLS cells. For self defense, the vessel is also equipped with a rear mounted Kashtan CIWS guns and Sacellanus SAM system, mounted in the block launcher at the front of the ship. Finally, the vessel is capable of carrying a single helicopter, to perform ASW and search and rescue duties, as well as a catapult launched Boeing ScanEagle UAV for surveillance duty.
