The Fascist Democratic Party is the current governing party of Radictistan, holding a parliamentary majority of twenty-two seats. It is led by Zahir Radicleb, the incumbent Prime Minister of Radictistan. Despite its provocative name, the FDP is the most centrist Radictistani political party. The party platform supports a mixed economy an an independent and assertive, although not overly interventionist, foreign policy. The FDP tends to avoid being associated with social issues or causes. This policy has given the party a reputation for being a "big tent."
Policies
Economic policy
The Fascist Democratic Party supports the present mixed economy and the party platform calls for natural monopolies to be kept under state ownership.
The party platform is highly supportive of Radictistani exports and opposes trade sanctions in most instances. However the party has always been supportive of protective tariffs to protect certain industries such as automobile manufacturing, steel, and other heavy industries.
Social policy
The Fascist Democratic Party has generally refrained from adopting positions on divisive social issues. The party's main contribution to Radictistani society has been the doctrine of "Fascist Democracy" from which the party's name is derived. The doctrine of Fascist Democracy holds that liberty is the highest possible good, placed even above stability and security. From this first principle comes the deduction that any and all means are justifiable when defending liberty from threats external and internal.
Foreign policy
In foreign policy the Fascist Democratic Party follows a broadly realist approach. The party platform advocates a policy of nonalignment in international affairs, with Radictistan refraining from entering into permanent alliances and remaining aloof from major diplomatic fault lines. The party platform also states that military force should be used only as a last resort in defense of key national interests. The foreign policy platform of the Fascist Democratic Party is less rift by factionalism than domestic policy.
Defense policy
The Fascist Democratic Party platform calls for the maintenance of a large and well-equipped military primarily for home defense but with the ability to intervene in small regional conflicts to protect Radictistan's commercial and diplomatic interests and for the protection of Radictistani citizens abroad. The party platform favors the continuation of the present conscription policy in order to prevent the military from becoming alienated from society. The party maintains no official position as to whether Radictistan should acquire nuclear weapons.
Party factions
One-nationists
The "One-nationists" represent the dominant faction of the Fascist Democratic Party. One-nationists strongly emphasize the importance of maintaining social stability through a culture of reciprocity between the socioeconomic classes. One-nationists in particular espouse the unitary state, conscription, the welfare state, and the executive power of the monarchy. They generally oppose the privatization of government-owned enterprises. They are also the most virulent advocates of the principle of Fascist Democracy. The incumbent party leader and Prime Minister of Radictistan Zahir Radicleb is considered to be a one-nationist.
Free-marketeers
The Free-marketeer faction criticizes the extent to which the Radictistani economy remains dominated by government-owned and government-linked enterprises. The faction advocates the privatization of a number of state enterprises including the national airline and national telephone monopoly, Royal Radictistan Telecom. The Radictistan Times editorial pages frequently promote the free-marketeers' positions.
Electoral support
The Fascist Democratic Party has strong support from among government employees and military personnel. Its geographic strongholds are the wealthy and populous western Counties, particularly the major cities. The party is weakest in Norcustsur where the Labor and National Conservative parties receive strong support from the urban working class.
