Conscription in Radictistan

Jump to navigation Jump to search

Conscription exists in Radictistan for all branches of the Radictistani military. Conscripts are chosen by lottery. The length of compulsory service is two years for the Army and three years for the Navy and Air Force. Both men and women are subject to conscription in Radictistan.

Process

A conscription lottery is held in January and July of each year. The number of individuals randomly selected for service is based on the yearly recruitment quotas of the three military branches. The number of conscripts to be inducted is apportioned between the seven Counties by population so that each County contributes a number of conscripts roughly proportionate to its share of the total national population.

Those selected in the spring lottery report for a physical examination in March as well as an interview in which their education and vocational qualifications are investigated. Conscripts are inducted into their assigned branch of service in April or May for basic training. Those individuals selected by the summer lottery report for their physical in September and are inducted in October or November. Students enrolled in higher education have their service deferred until after graduation.

Conscientious objection

The Military Service Act allows persons with religious or moral objection to military service to be granted conscientious objector status. Those granted conscientious objector status are required to spend three years in alternative civilian service (Radictistani: Alternativzivildiens). Those who undertake AZS must spend at least forty-five hours per week working at an approved institution of a charitable or educational nature. Conscientious objector status is in general easy to obtain. Only a small fraction of each year’s cohort is selected for service and those exempted from armed service can easily be replaced.

Conditions of Service

Duration

Most conscripts assigned to the Royal Radictistan Army serve on active duty for two years. Conscripts who volunteer for service with either 2 Naval Brigade or 36th Airborne Division serve for an additional year. Conscripts in the Royal Radictistan Navy and Royal Radictistan Air Force serve on active duty for three years. Conscripts of all branches serve the remainder of a ten-year service obligation in the reserve component.

Compensation

Radictistani conscripts receive only nominal financial compensation, colloquially known as biergeld ("beer money"). Persons undertaking AZS receive no compensation from the government.

Promotion

Conscripts with good conduct are promoted after six, twelve, and eighteen months of service. The highest rank attained is Corporal (Kapral) for Army and Air Force personnel and Senior Seaman (Obermatros) for Navy personnel.
