It was the fifth time that Zafizamarrah hosted the competition, after doing so in 1958, 1963, 1966 and 1967. The competition was won by Aziz Goridagyev Novogrody with the song "Беда отвергнутых". ===Aziz Goridagyev Novogrody's Second Win===
The return of Aziz Goridagyev at first surprised everyone due to the fact that he said that he "is not interested in ARFOS anymore" in a 1966 interview when asked about returning to ARFOS. He then pulled away from that statement in 1968 saying that he's "ready to return whenever Pyalivostok needed him". And Radio Pyalivostok did just that for 1969.
When the news got out, Aziz immediately become the favorite to win 10:1 compared to the next favorite 'Ammarusayn from Zafizamarrah (which come out as the runner up). Some people initially protested due to the fact that Aziz being well known already and thus shouldn't be given the right to participate anymore due to how it'll give a higher advantage for him, however AleziRadio announced that Aziz is allowed to participate because it does not matter if the artist is already famous (they said to look at Santa Liliace who is also famous even if she didn't win previously, Maryam Isnoora, and Harzanov Kalicheev), as long as the song is not released yet before the competition, everyone should be fine.
In the performance day, it was put to realization that no matter who's the opposition is, Aziz is going to win more than anyone. And the prediction was correct with Aziz bringing the trophy to Pyalivostokgrad for the second time himself. However, everyone was still surprised that he accumulated more than 50 points, which is a massive feat at the time.
The winning song broke Alezian Charts 1969 for 6 months. The song was hailed for being forward in time and "dramatically heart wrenching" with the lyrics being also hailed for being one of the best in ARFOS history, where the lyrics was adapted to a movie script (Rejection (1979)) and also turned into a poem which was a must-read for every National Poem-Reading Competition of Alezia since 1982.
After the competition, Aziz said that he wants to take a rest from singing in ARFOS but he does have plans to return in the future.
===Duo Zafi=== | |||
'Ammarusayn who earned second and the Hasmas who earned third also earned popularity in their own region of Zafizamarrah, also being hailed for keeping Zafizamarrah's medal tally to an absolute high.
===Four Nul-Pointers===
The voting round was met with shouting once again, not just because Aziz kept getting points and kept running away from the rest of the pack in the voting, it's also due to the fact that four songs had failed to score any points whatsoever. And this is considered a major moment in ARFOS History. The public reaction to the artists who earn zero points are varied.
Novinkov Dalyenko from Pyalivostok received negative criticism sometimes even negatively compared to Aziz Goridagyev Novogrody so much that Aziz has to step up and told the critics to "Man up".
Eni Kakovinen from Daya Island also received negative acclaim even though it's not as severe as Dalyenko to the south of the island. Eni would eventually try for Daya Island again next year.
Yessie Marrerievais from Aramna also received similiar treatment. She blamed Aziz Goridagyev for throwing the competition away from anyone and called AleziRadio to disqualify him from the competition. AleziRadio responded by saying that the juries of ARFOS has been very unbiased towards the voting.
Darrings Earthwell was the one who received the worst criticism back in his region of Bristol due to him failing to score any point once again for the region. This is Bristol's second last place and nul-points in a row, which caused protest of people to the British Radio of Bristol to do something about Bristol's quality of songs especially considering that their counterpart, Radio Francaise De Bristolie, tend to do much better in the competition sending songs in French, which is a language only 20% of the population use at that point. |
Revision as of 04:37, 31 July 2021
AleziRadio Festival of Songs 1969 is the twelfth edition of the annual AleziRadio Festival of Songs. It was held on 13th of June 1969, which was the first time that the competition was not held in its usual 16th of May. This is due to the series of events that caused instability in North Alezia, such as Funeral of Amina Iliya and Assasination of Adaraqqi Iliya.
The competition was held and organized by Radio Zafizamarrah after Muhammad Isbaqarrahim's victory last year. It was the fifth time that Zafizamarrah hosted the competition, after doing so in 1958, 1963, 1966 and 1967. The competition was won by Aziz Goridagyev Novogrody with the song "Беда отвергнутых". This marks his second victory in the Festival thus marking the first time that a person won ARFOS more than once, the fifth victory for Pyalivsotok (after 1958 (the one where Aziz won for the first time), 1961, 1964, and 1967 ) and the first to break the "3 year coincidence" rule for Pyalivostok.
The competition was held in the Costa De Zafi Hotel Hall located in the Oldport-Newport Area of Zafizamarrah which was at the time suffering from economic slowdown due to the legislation made by the Premier at that time (Amina Iliya) where trade and transportation into and out of North Alezia was severely limited to few select countries.
Maryam Isnoora who won the competition in 1962 returned as the presenter of the competition, already having presented the show previously in 1963. Other than that, Mukhlis Krasnaya Novogrody returned to the competition after winning for Pyalivostok 11 years ago. Dika and Nomaria who was a Mosin-Naganese duo who earned 6th last year, and Santa Liliace who represented Aramna on that year also returned.
In this edition, numerous records were broken: 1. Aziz Goridagyev Novogrody is the first singer and composer to win ARFOS twice 2. Aziz Goridagyev Novogrody is the first singer and composer to win ARFOS with more than 50 points 3. Aziz Goridagyev Novogrody is the first singer and composer to pass the 50% treshold of votes (higher than 45 points from 90) 4. Aziz Goridagyev Novogrody is the first singer and composer to earn votes from all 18 juries (two of those are from his own region who can't vote for his own song) 4. Four songs received zero points, breaking the previous record of two.
Incidents
Delay No. 1 - Amina Iliya's Death
Starting from around November 1968, the State Council of North Alezia announced that Amina Iliya's health is deteriorating. According to the legislation of North Alezia, any Premier who die while holding the Premiership Title should be entitled to a high-level funeral procession and a mourning period that stays for 2 weeks while a new premier was "Democratically" elected (in fact, it was selected from another member of the Iliya family at the time).
While ARFOS would start on 16th of May and Amina passed away the day after, Amina was on her deathbed already starting from 10th of May, ordering for everything to be stopped immediately, which includes ARFOS. Specifically for ARFOS, she ordered that ARFOS would only be held two weeks after her death, and to continue preparations no matter what happened.
Delay No. 2 - Adaraqqi Iliya's Assasination and Death
After Amina Iliya passed away, Adaraqqi Iliya took the position as Premier of North Alezia. Normally, ARFOS would've been held exactly at 31st of May 1969 as the late Amina had ordered. However, Adaraqqi's poor decisions caused him to be assasinated by Aji Iliya (the third and longest-serving Premier of North Alezia) on the 26th of May and once again, two weeks of mourning had to ensue. Adaraqqi himself also told AleziRadio that ARFOS must continue after the period is over
This meant that the competition had to be postponed yet again to 13th of June 1969. At this point the Alezian public starts to be worried about the stability of their country due to their leader changing too many times in a month and due to the fact that ARFOS might be cancelled if the new Premier got harmed again.
Fortunately, Aji Iliya continues to rule without any problems (until his death in 1983) and thus making it possible for ARFOS to finally happen after weeks of delay. And luckily, everything was ready for the competition itself and the competition went as usual

Duo Zafi
'Ammarusayn who earned second and the Hasmas who earned third also earned popularity in their own region of Zafizamarrah, also being hailed for keeping Zafizamarrah's medal tally to an absolute high.
Four Nul-Pointers
