The Democratic Republic of Thurne (Wranic: Demokratische Republik Türn), commonly referred to as Thurne, is a sovereign state located on the northwestern coast of Asteria Inferior. It is bordered to the west by ? and to the east by Parche, with its coastline along the Arucian Sea. The country has an estimated population of 42,135,867, with 4,038,856 living in the capital Carteia. Most urban centres, including the capital, are located on the Hoto River, which travels from the coastline to the country's southern interior. Thurne has vast biodiversity and variety of habitats, including mountains, jungles and tropical grasslands.

Prior to the arrival of Euclean colonists, the land was home to numerous indigenous groups, particularly the Katai people, with human activity in the area going back to the Paleolithic era. Thurne was discovered by the Lusitan explorer Sol de los Santos in 1541, who found patronage from the Weranian Kingdom of Gallenmark to explore it further. In 1543, Santos established a settlement called Neu Glaudau, which was later incorporated into the Weranian colony Klein-Carteig that was established in 1548. Thurne was the largest Weranian colony and was rich in farmland and mineral resources, leading to the importing of thousands of Bahian slaves for use on plantations and in mines. Growing discontent with the colonial rulers, as well as political instability in Euclea, led to a slaves' revolt in 1815 that transformed into a nationwide uprising. Three years of fighting forced the crown to grant independence to the colony, first led by revolutionary leader Sebastien Keppler. A popular republican, he established the Thurnic Republic in 1819, but died in 1822.

After Keppler's death, Thurne was ruled by a series of military dictatorships and unstable governments. The most famous of which was Albert Wesler, a dictator that ruled the country from 1889 to 1906. His support of the Confederation of Independent States in the Asterian Civil War resulted in his being overthrown by an Asterian federalist-backed coup and the establishment of the Second Thurnic Republic later that year. When the Great War began in 1926, the government declared neutrality but promised to join the war were Werania or Asteria attacked, whichever came first. Werania was invaded by Gaullica, and thus Thurne declared war on the latter just a day later. Parche, a Gaullican ally and neighbouring state, declared war. Thurne eventually won the conflict as a part of the greater Democratic Alliance victory in 1935, but suffered heavy losses throughout the course of the war.

The government collapsed in 1936. A new government was proclaimed by the Popular Republican Front, supported by DITO. Its authority was contested by the Thurnic People's Revolutionary Party (TVRP). The republican government refused to allow the TVRP to take part in the new government, leading them to start an insurgency that transformed into a civil war. The war completed in 1940 with a victory for the TVRP, and Martin Albrecht became the first leader of the self-proclaimed socialist state. Today, Thurne is a totalitarian state with an internationally-criticized human rights record. A highly militarized state, its nuclear weapons program has been the subject of international condemnation.
