The Imperial Cabinet of Mesogeia is the seniormost executive body of the Mesogeian government, having originated as a committee of the Imperial Grand Council.
History
From the 13th century to about 1830s, the Northern and Southern kingdoms composing the Mesogeian empire had seperate government heads and seperate cabinet ministries, with the ministries of the Imperial Chancellery, the Imperial Court, and Foreign Affairs, being the only ministries functioning on a national level.
The Ministries for Justice, War, Internal Affairs, and the Imperial Treasury all had seperate branches for the north and south, with various subsections prior to the the government restruucturing of the 1830s.
It was not until the 1830s after the government restructuring that the Mesazon began to act as the head of the Mesogeian government, previously the holder of the position had served as an intermediary between the Grand Wazir and the Megas Grammateus; respectively the heads of the northern and southern governments of the Mesogeian empire.
Functions and meeting
The primary function of the Imperial cabinet is to determine the general direction of national policy, to provide guidance for the implementing of nationally important matters, as well as the resolving of disputes arising between multiple ministries.
Typically speaking the imperial cabinet meets at TBA, the residence of the Mesazon, although cabinet meetings are usually chaired by the incumbent Mesazon, the sovereign has chaired cabinet meetings on occasion.
Composition
The Imperial Cabinet of Ministers is composed of fourteen individuals bearing the status of Basilikoi Grammateus (State secretaries), in addition to various non-state secretaries with the right to attend cabinet meetings, although they do not take part in active discussions.
