The 1983 Salamati Coup d'Etat attempt occurred on March 12 1983 in two cities ; Dar Al Hamma and Ghafun, in Salamat.

Soldiers and a little group of officers, members of the People's Salamati Resistance Front, in military barracks in Ghafun and Dar Al Hamma, took control of their military bases and tried to take control of the Narqa Military Airport and the Presidential Palace. However, other military groups,loyal to Al Kharrabi, engaged in a fight against the rebels, which led to their surrender after 4 hours of fight.
