Smith Island is a territory of Meridon, which consists of Smith Island and . It is bordered to the north by Helena Territory, to the east by the Eastern Islands territory, to the south by Kalua Territory, and to the west by Alexandria and Ohawe territories. Smith Island's capital and largest city is is Tullamarina, with Tapperoa being another city of note on the island.
Smith Island, due to its rocky soil and mountainous hilly inland, was not a favorable site for agriculture and was not significantly inhabited by Tangaran populaces until the 16th and 17th centuries, but became a refuge for displaced Tangaran populaces especially after the First Colonial War. It was the site of some of the most fierce fighting during the Second Colonial War, and subsequently saw harsh retribution on native populations after the war. Coveted at first for its abundance of deep water ports owing to prominent volcanism, it was later discovered to be rich in mineral deposites, especially bauxite and iron ore. It industrialized alongside Alexandria in the mid 1800s and became an industrialized powerhouse, supplying a vast majority of metals used in industry for the rest of the islands in the archipelago. However, poor living conditions inland, exacerbated by industrial activities along the island, have made wealth disparity an increasing issue on the island.
Smith Island is famous for its shipbuilding industry, which has more shipyards than any other territory in Meridon. Focused on the islands northern shore, the epithet 'Northshore' is common Meridonian slang for an object of high quality or ruggedness. Smith Island produces large amounts of bauxite, steel and iron ore, aluminum. Smith Island also has a reputable alcohol industry, with its farms not producing enough to support normal agricultural outputs. While Smith Island has a high economic output, it also has high levels of economic disparity and crime as compared with the rest of the country.
