The Royal Gallambrian Air Force (RGAF), formed May 1918, is the aerial warfare branch of the HM Gallambrian Armed Forces. It operates the majority of HM Armed Force's fixed wing aircraft, although both the Gallambrian Army and Royal Gallambrian Navy also operate aircraft in various roles. It directly continues the traditions of the Army Flying Corps (AFC), formed on 15 March 1912. The RGAF provides support across a spectrum of operations such as air superiority, precision strikes, intelligence, surveillance and reconnaissance, air mobility, and humanitarian support.

The RGAF has 504 aircraft, of which 296 are combat aircraft.

History

Formation

Ranks

The rank structure of the nascent RGAF was established within the context of the desire to ensure that the service remained separate from both the Army and Navy. While the service's predecessor formations, the AFC and the AAC, had used the Army's rank structure, in November 1917, just prior to the RGAF's foundation, it was decided by the Air Board that the RGAF would adopt its own rank structure.

Badge

The RGAF badge was accepted by the Chester Herald in 1939. The badge is composed of the imperial crown mounted on a circle featuring the words Royal Gallambrian Air Force, beneath which scroll works displays the Latin motto Per Ardua Ad Astra. Surmounting the badge is a Gallambrian Wedge-Tail Eagle.
