The Royal Republic of Valvexia (Valvexan: Könichenrepublik Valvexá), more colloquially known as the "Royal Republic" or simply Valvexia, is a constitutional monarchy on Terreren located in the northwestern region of the continent. Established by Alfredo I with the 1st Council of Ahgorae in 947, the Valvexian monarchical system is the oldest continuous system of its kind on Terreren, with Charel V serving as its monarch since his ascension in August 2016.

Etymology

The country derives its name from the old term "Valvexá", which roughly translates to the "Land of the Valvexii", the tribal nation that inhabited most of central Valvexia.

History

Valvexian history has a recorded tradition dating back to the 8th Century CE, with an oral tradition dating back far earlier. Historians have generally divided Valvexian history into two distinct eras: the history that occured prior to Valvexian proto-unification under Alfredo of the Valvexii, known as the Pre-Unification Era, and the history that occured after Alfredo was named Great Protector, known as the Post-Unification Era. Modern historians have also referred to these periods as the Pre-Council Period and the Post-Council Period, named after the 1st Council of Ahgorae. Valvexian history has also been divided by dynastic periods, but this division is less common.

Pre-Unification Era

The Pre-Unification Era of Valvexian history is heavily defined by two key events: the migration of people into Northwestern Tererren through the ve Kette and Valdovii gaps in the Kerasinii Mountain Range roughly around 5000 BCE, and the emergence of the main tribal groups as proto-centralized regional powers around 300 CE. Interactions with the Swagotii, the Davans, and the Hervalii also occurred during this time, leading to trade and the exchange of ideas. The era effectively ended with the conclusion of the Wars of Valvexan Reclamation and the naming of Alfredo of the Valvexii as the Great Protector.

Migration into Valvexia and Northwestern Tererren

The Valvexian oral tradition is widely considered to have began with the migration of the first peoples into Northwestern Tererren around 5000 BCE through the ve Kette Gap in Kettebourg and the Great Valdovii Gap in Valdovia. From there, people began to settle and establish permanent settlements, usually along or near bodies of water such as the Kaveda River, the Wesslach, the Ostelach, and others. While some groups settled and remained in Valvexia, other groups continued to migrate north along the coast of the Helaethian Sea and across the Ikaran Mountains into present-day Udinin and Halfaxa. It was in Halfaxa where the Hervali would go on to establish the Hervalis Tribal Confederacy, the first proto-centralized power in the region.
