The first leadership election for the Popular Alliance of Socialists & Democrats was held between June and September of 2007, shortly after the merging of the Labour Party, the Democratic Centre Party, the Socialist People's Party, and the Civic Alliance. It was won by the leader of the pre-merge Labour Party, Jakob Askildsen, who led in all four rounds. Coterminous with the leadership election, Anton Rudolfsson and Helga Olafsdottir were elected co-Deputy Leaders of the new party.
