Desiderious Silkvest served as the Chancellor of the Exponential Empire from 1948 to 1962. During Silkvest's time in office, Exponent became entangled in the wider Astyrian Cold War, and developed a nuclear weapons program.

Early Life

Desiderious Silkvest was born on 21 April, 1894 in the city of Alexandria. He was the third of five sons born to Centurion Rufus Octavius Silkvest (1868–1951) and Maria Flavia Greyrock (1871–1967). Silkvest's family was a prominent merchant family with an extensive history in Imperial maritime affairs. His grandfather Julius had been customs master in Alexandria between 1871 and 1883, and his great-great-grandfather Brutus had fought in the Austral War.

On 7 April 1916, Desiderious Silkvest married Augustina Parker (born on 28 September 1897) daughter of Samuel Augustus Parker(1871–1969), an Scottopian Exponential professor of physics and Imperial ambassador to Greater Nortend, and Maria Brightstone (1873–1959). They had seven children: Maria Cristina (1919), Julius Augustus (1921), Flavius Samuel (1923), Augustina Lucretia (1924), Petrus Franciscus (1926), Marcus Marius (1931) and Rufus Maximus (1933). Two of these, Marcus Marius and Rufus Maximus, joined the Imperial Exponential Navy.

Naval Career

Silkvest enrolled in the Imperial Naval College in 1912, graduating near the top of his class in 1916. He would later serve in the Great Astyrian War before being appointed as the Imperial Naval attache in London from 1928 to 1933. He was appointed Chief of Naval Intelligence upon his return to Exponent in 1933.
