Novdon (Novdavian: Новдон), officially the People's State of Novdon, is a country in the Eastern realms. It is situated on the end of the Eastern peninsula, bordering the Federate Union and Gasaria to the west. The capital and largest city is Zhalov; its population of 2 million is predominately rural within its 4 regions.
Human activity has been documented on the tip of the Eastern peninsula since the Early era. The first Novdon republic emerged centred on Silograd in the Middle era but succumbed to Gasarian and Tasian conquests, finalized by the 1690 partition. Novdavian identity persisted among rural and some urban areas. The Federate movement spread to Novdon and escalated in the Novdavian Revolution. The Provisional State of Novdon was admitted to the Federate Union in 1835. The Slowdown of the 1950s led to toxic gasses severely affecting the air-quality of southwestern areas, leading to an exodus from severely-affected Silograd, where most Novdavian Tasians resided in and fled to neighbouring Tasia and Gasaria. Novdon regained independence in 1968 after the Popular Uprisings.
Novdon is a developing country with an middle-income economy largely focused on agriculture, followed by industry and services. Novdon is a member of the Free State Association since 1979. A democratic state, corruption is perceived to persist and significant monogas contaminated "no-zones" have greatly affected society. The country is a neutral state.
Government and politics
Administrative divisions
Novdon is constitutionally divided into 5 historical provinces. Its actual governance is composed of 2 districts and the Special Protection Zone. Local governments in Novdon typically elect local mayors and assemblies, but their specific functions and abilities depend on individual statute.
Military
The Novdavian Armed Forces are the country's military. The Special Protection Authority Security Forces are the paramilitary of the Special Protection Authority, the administration of the "Special Protection Zone" no-zone.
Civil and political rights
Human rights in Novdon are guaranteed in its constitution.
The government of Gasaria criticized the expulsion of Gasarian refugees in 1977 after the Federate-Novdavian pact was signed. The Novdon-Gasaria border was closed by Novdon in 1978, citing security reasons; it was reopened in 1985.
The Independent Organization in 2002 criticized the Special Protection Authority and the government of using no-zone land for secret detention centres. The Novdavian government responded by banning Independent Organization correspondents from the Special Protection Zone for safety reasons, although Independent Organization have admitted to entering the barred area regardless.
