Khemri (High Khemric: Khēmi), officially the Popular Union of Khemri (High Khemric: Ouoh-Romt Khēmi) is a unitary presidential dominant-party republic in Majula. The country maintains a population of 91 million, and spans approximately x square kilometres (x sq mi). It borders Fahran and the Decanian to the north and Habasha to the west. The largest city is Nekhrish, while Beknirro is the capital. The current Supreme Leader is Ese Khion, while the current First Secretary is Rahimah Remas, both members of the dominant NRP.
Considered a cradle of civilisation, Khemri emerged as one of the world's earliest civilizations, with a populous empire under the First dynasty emerging along the fertile Phiaro River around 3100 BCE, expanding to encompass much of eastern Majula. Ancient dynastic Khemri remained one of the ancient powers throughout it's existence, until it's mysterious disappearance in the Old Khemric Collapse around 1150 BCE. By 900 BCE, the Low Khemric peoples of the upper Phiaro restored the Khemric civilisation under the semi-mythical Horus dynasty, with many adopting the ancient Khemric language as their first tongue. Khemri would continue to expand, fracture and re-unify numerous times, under a number of dynasties. From 303 to 921 CE, the Iteru dynasty presided over a growing cultural, military and technological power, although their rule was ended by the migration and invasion of the horselords, who subsequently adopted certain Khemric traditions and established the brief Hetri dynasty, which ruled until it's overthrow in 1107 CE during the Great Anarchy.
Order would be restored in 1198 CE by the Wekhet dynasty, ending close to a hundred years of disorganised rule and warlordism. Although seeing recovery, a period of decline would ensue. The dynastic system would come to an end in 1917, when the Belthōn dynasty was overthrown by the popular Blackblood Rebellion, and was swiftly replaced by a republican government. The new government in Beknirro proved incapable of maintaining order in the country, and the countryside descended into disorder, as rival political factions - resurrectionists and royalists - competed for influence in the country. The disorder culminated in the outbreak of the Khemric Civil War, which saw the resurrectionists victorious and the establishment of the Popular Union by Akhtet Mu in 1933. Under resurrectionist rule, the country has seen a vast reconstruction and modernisation effort, a controversial widespread social engineering program and insistent economic growth, combined with a mixed human rights record and consistently compromised elections under the ruling National Resurrection Party.
The country maintains a GDP PPP per capita of $21,182, and a total GDP PPP of $1.94 trillion, the country has arisen as a significant exporter of goods, and is considered a newly industrialized country. Characterized as one of Majula's leading regional powers, Khemri is considered a key member of the Universal Irsadic Cooperative Congress, is an observer in the Community of Majulan Nations, retains membership in a number of other formal and informal multilateral organizations, and maintains a significant standing army.
