The event marked the third time Andlin had hosted the contest. It was hosted by Ændlisk Fjernsyn (ÆF) and organised by the National Radio-Television Council (CNRT), and presented by Marie Keier.

16 countries participated in the contest, the most ever at the time. Port Anilis returned to the contest, having last participated in 1975, and Allaro debuted.
