Winning song"Tak Lagi" by Nurhaima Isa Al-Hazairah

AleziRadio Festival of Songs 1989 is the thirty-second edition of the annual AleziRadio Festival of Songs. The competition was held as usual in 16th of May 1989 by the authorities of Radio Basna Raya. This is the fourth time that Basna hosted the competition after doing so previously in 1964, 1981, and 1987.

The competition was won by Nurhaima Isa Al-Hazairah with the song "Tak Lagi" representing Basna. This is the fifth time that Basna won the competition after previously doing so in 1963, 1980, 1986, and 1988. This also makes Basna joining Zafizamarrah as regions who have won in home soil (or won twice in a row).

This is the first time that a foreign country was invited to the AleziRadio Festival of Songs, where the nation of Carrelie was invited by the AleziRadio committee to participate. Previously, the AleziRadio committee contacted Indonesia, Yugoslavia, and Japan to compete last year as the first international competitor, however all three nations refused to participate.

This year, Radio Basna Raya once again hosted the competition. However, only Radio Basna Dalam (RBD) and Radio Basna Kota dan Pesisir (RBKP) was working together this year, as Radio Basna Kepulauan Luar (RBKL) was in the progress of restructuring, and thus unable to allocate any money for the competition.

As in the 1986 edition, The festival took place in Kota Basna, which is the capital of the region of Basna and the third biggest city in North Alezia at the time after Metropolitan Zafizamarrah and Pyalivostokgrad. RBR itself decided that the festival should be finally held in Hotel Santader after previously considering reusing Hotel Terra-Berlian and the Pusat Budaya Basna Kota who had previously hosted the festivals before.

The hotel building itself was the tallest building in Basna with the height of 103 meters from 1981 to 1997 where The Gran Kencana overtook it by height. It was the first five-star hotel in Basna and the second to be built in North Alezia after the Hotel of Alezia in Metropolitan Zafizamarrah. The hotel contains 543 rooms and has a main hall on the right side of the building which was used for the Festival. The main hall itself reused the temporary theatre seating from 1986 and upgraded it, making it capable of holding 1,523 people inside. The orchestra pit and the scrutineer table was located on the right side of the stage, while the scoreboard was located on the left.

Incidentally, the top 3 performers of last year's competition (Muhawarrin Saud, Eurie Ma'olani Salem, and Mark Albertsen) decided to all return in this year. Edith Marie-Tavalierres also returned to the competition after previously representing her region of Bristol in 1972 and 1973.

Participating Entries and Results

  • "*" = the singer won the Independence Award which was held the day before the competition. Carrelie did not participate in the Independence Award due to it being exclusive to Alezian singers only.
  • The song for the Independence Award for the year was "Then, What Do I Want?", which was originally sung and composed by Ahmad Nawisrin in 1933.
  • Due to it never participating before, Carrelie was scheduled to run in the end of both the first half and the second half of the competition, which is number 10 and 20. However, Carrelie was to vote last.
