The University of St Lucia is a public research university in St Lucia, Iobaray. First established in 1290, it went through a number of relocations until moving permanently to St Lucia in 1537. The university is among the oldest universities in continuous operation in the world, the oldest in Iobaray, and played an influential role in the development of higher education in southwest Adula. In 2013 the university became a World Cultural Site, noted for its architecture, unique culture and traditions, and historical role.

The contemporary university is organized into eight faculties, granting bachelor's, master's and doctorate degrees in nearly all major fields. Enrolling over 25,000 students, more than 15% of whom are international, it is Iobaray's most cosmopolitan university.

The university harbours a huge central library, botanical gardens, stadiums and other sports facilities, an astronomical observatory, a publishing house, a private chapel, a theatre, and many support facilities such as dining halls and studying rooms.
