The Tikvan Democratic Party (Yebru: מפלגה דמוקרטית) is the current governing party of the State of Tikva led by Prime Minister Liora Shapiro. The TDP was formed through the merger of a half-dozen left-leaning political parties during the October 2019 snap elections. It has enabled the left to form a united front against the fractured but no less dangerous coalition led by Jacob Lesker and other right-wing and extremist parties. It won an outright mandate of 62 seats, out of 120 seats in the Knesset, making it the first party since 1968 to run the country without the need of a coalition partner. The Democratic Party is also called "the New Left," and its rise to dominance has been called a total realignment of modern Tikvan politics.
