As the landed nobility in rural parts of the kingdom built up wealth through the construction of vast estates and plantations, more peasants found themselves being kicked out of their hamlets and moving from the countryside to the cities. Faced with being tied to estates under the nobility or crippling poverty in the cities under the guild system which prevented many newly independent freemen from starting their own businesses.

Strathcanne is a noble republic, with the legislature being made up of two chambers. The upper chamber is the Collegia, which is made up of noble representatives from each of the country's arrondisement. The lower chamber is the parliament, and is filled with elected representatives. each representing a parish, the smallest administrative division. While the members of the Collegia are tied to the counties, the head of the Collegia is elected from its body every four years. Similarly, parliamentary elections are held each four years. The heads of the Collegia and the parliament hold equal positions co-Consul, roughly corresponding to role of prime minister in other systems.

Administrative Divisions

The nation is divided into several counties, which subdivided into arrondissements and then parishes, roughly equal to municipalities elsewhere. Each county has a governor which is appointed by the Collegia, and approved by the parliament. Each arrondisement is represented by their baron in the collegia, while the parliament is filled with representatives elected on the parish level.
