History
Pre-Unification
Western Rakeo was originally settled by sea-faring tribes from the Southern Landmass. Over time, the first settlements transitioned from fishing as a main source of food towards low-temperature agriculture, allowing for survival in the inhospitable dark woods. These coastal villages would later become Rakeo’s first city-states.

First Republic
The first republic was a loose organization formed out of voluntary pacts between coastal city-states. These agreements lasted until 1704 and were superseded when the Republican Congregational Congress formed.
Theocratic Republic
Under Rakeian Catholicism, the foremost religion in Eastern Rakeo, the RCC was originally formed as a voting bloc for the first republic’s legislature, but soon had all city-states as part of its agreement. A vote was held to abolish the previous constitution, and the Theocratic Republic of Rakeo was born.
Almost immediately, there were challenges to the legitimacy of the new government. Inland farmers, already incensed from being disenfranchised under the coastal government, began to rebel. While the sporadic violence was tolerated at first, the TRR eventually established a peacekeeping force to oversee the inland provinces.
Military Coup
The forces, established under the TRR to fight unruly farmers, soon co-opted other function of society, acting as personal guards for the Archbishops, and as a unified police force. However, pagan influences within the military, as well as discontentment with church appointed officers, lead to the day of blood, in which rouge elements of the military seized church property, burnt chapels, and publicly executed spiritual leaders in Western Rakeo.
In response to the news, Eastern Rakeo began purging military officials and formed religious militias in preparation for defense against the imminent invasion.
These militias engaged in fifteen full scale battles, mostly centered around Southern Rokea. During the summer, the front lines remained stable, but beginning in fall, the frigid temperatures of the southern ice sheet caused mass causalities and a complete disintegration of command. Later examination determined that cannibalism had become widespread. Tunnels beneath the snow provided shelter to militant and loyalist personnel alike.
With the majority of its forces incapacitated in the south, TRR began losing ground on the northern front after the battle of Paragon
Quarry.
On January 15th, the militants fled from the city of Paragon by sea, and the remaining inhabitants of the city surrendered. By January 20th, TRR surrendered authority of Eastern Rakeo to the military.
Fighting continued underground on the southern ice sheet until June 8th, at which point TRR loyalists attempted to withdraw eastward, but were met by militant forces.
Stratocratic Republic
After June 15th of 1955, the current government of all of Rakeo, the Stratocratic Rakeian Republic maintains a stable military state. All resources are devoted to continually improve the wartime readiness of the nation.
