Uniform

In 1981 the Department of the Army adopted a beige dress uniform which is worn with a white kepi, blue sash, and green and red epaulette. The Troupe d'Infanterie Navale (Naval Infantry Troop) wear blue and red kepis with yellow epuaulettes. The Chasseurs Alpins (Mountain Infantry) wear a large beret known as "gâteau" (The cake) with a white dress uniform and long white burnous. Sapeurs wear the standard dress uniform with leather gloves and a leather apron. Finally, members of the Lifeguard of the Marshal wear a black dress uniform with long black burnous, red kepi and red epuaulettes.

The standard camouflage pattern is officially designated as Boisé Mixte (Mixed Woodland) and features a color pallet consisting of green, brown, black and tan with thick stripping. An arid variation known as Désert Mixte (Mixed Desert) also exists and features a color pallet of exclusively browns and tans in the same thick stripping configuration.
