The Aymovski Ay-07 is a lightweight single-engine all-weather multirole fighter aircraft developed by the Aymovski Aircraft Corporation. Development of the aircraft effectively began in 2013 with the Experimental Fighter Program, a multinational collaborative effort between the many nations. Due to disagreements over design authority and operational requirements, some members withdrew from the program. A technology demonstration aircraft, the Aymovski X-07, The Ay-07, is awaiting full scale adoption; the first production contracts have been signed.
History
The Republic of Schutzgeidt proposed a plan for a multi-role fighter jet to be built by able aerospace companies. To replace its Panavia Tornadoes new and more effective design. Two contracts for prototype production will be awarded to the two aerospace manufacturers chosen. A number of companies placed proposes but only two were selected and Axe & Hammer Defence Industries with their Ko Enshaku 02 and Anikatian International Trade and Export Corporation (ANKITEC) with their Aymovski X-07A were selected to progress to a prototype fly off, Axe & Hammer were unable to commit to this stage of development and thus the contract was won by default to ANKITEC.
Producing a design that could met the challenging and changing design brief proved very difficult and the initial proposals that were put forward became more expensive as features and further a number of design studies and experimentation with existing fighters were conducted. The Anikatian Government became interested in the program, they offically joined the program in 2014. New requirements for STOVL and stealth led to complex and substantial redesigns this pushed back the development. What emerged were in fact four distinct aircraft designs, the closest to original goals and demonstrator prototype was the Ay-07.
Design
The Ay-07 is a lightweight single-engine, highly maneuverable, supersonic, multi-role tactical fighter aircraft. The Ay-07 was designed to be a highly cost-effective combat based on the skills and intended to be derived from the Ay-05 however because of changes to the Experimental Fighter Program it ended up sharing very little. It uses advanced aerodynamics and avionics, including the first use of a fly-by-wire flight control system, to achieve enhanced maneuver performance.
Variants
- X-07A
- Initial experimental aircraft demonstrator prototype.
- X-07DA
- Pre-production development aircraft up to 15 were built, used as testbeds.
- X-07DA-UB
- Proposed twin seat design (changes would require removal of internal gun and replaces in-flight refueling with fixed nozzle, slight reduction in internal fuel capacity) none were built.
- X-07-105DA
- Pre-production further development of the X-07, a fifth generation stealth design see Aymovski Ay-105 up to 12 were built, used as testbeds.
- Ay-07
- Initial single-seater fighter version that will enter service with all the partners of the program.
- Ay-07BKR
- Production version for the Anikatian Air Force, optimizsed for ground attack and reconnaissances.
- Ay-07K
- Carrier variant for the Schutzgeidt Navy, modified for carrier operations. The changes included strengthened airframes, undercarriages, and a large tailhook. As a result, the Ay-07K weighs 500 kg (1,100 lb) more than standard the Ay-07.
- Ay-07IE / Ay-07IX
- export variants differs from EFP member version in that is has different combat systems derived from domestic Ay-05 and MyL-23 radar and weapons systems and this limited commonalty with member nations electronic systems. It was originally given the designated Ay-07IE originally but has been re-designated under the new systems as the current Ay-07IX.
- Ay-07IXSB
- export version build for the Sutādōtāzu Grand Air Service based on the Ay-07BKR so it has been optimizsed for ground attack and reconnaissances.
