The population of Atogoku stands at just under 13,000,000. Its capital city is Yoko, located in the south east of Atogoku, home to just over 1,000,000 people and is the third largest city. Atogoku has one of the highest GINI's in Septentrion and it well known for its poor distribution of income. Despite this, the nation maintains a healthy HDI. The nation heavily played a part in the Pan-Septentrion War.
Etymology
Yokoshima Atogoku's name originates from the early Ato-Rishi Dynasty, the largest state of the four contesting states over the lands currently unified under Atogoku. By 223BC, the Ato-Rishi Dynasty had successfuly defeated all of the other 3 states, unifying them. The land currently known as Atogoku, was named Ghomada (勝利の国/Country of Victory).
After the collapse of the 523 year old Ato-Rishi Dynasty, the Atogokan Dynasty formed (Atogoku meaning Eclipse in Haji, an ancient dialect of Chinese (Haji, Malayic language is not related).

Atogokan National Police Service (Atogokan Police)
The Atogokan National Police Service is the nationwide Police authority which oversees localised and regional forces. It is the sole military police force in Atogoku - Atogokan Military Police. The Atogokan National Police came under severe scrutiny in 2017 after the handling of the aftermath of the 2017 Yoko Terror Attacks. Alongside the Atogokan National Security Service (ANSS), the Atogokan National Police ignored multiple warnings of a possible future terror attack allowing the plan to prosper and eventually allowing the attacks to take place. After the events in 2017, the senior board of the service were all removed from office by the government. 3 Senior officers who ignored red flags brought up by workers within the National Police Service were arrested and sentenced to 21 years in prison.
Atogokan National Health Service
The Atogokan National Health Service provides free healthcare for all within the Minimum Wage to $70,000+ boundary. According to Atogokan Law Article 28 Section 50, the Atogokan NHS has lawful rights to access to Private Healthcare resources for free or a maximum fee of £10,000, though Private Healthcare companies were pushing for it to move up to £50,000.
The Atogokan NHS also works with the Department for Health and Office for National Health to co-ordinate responses for Public Health crises, such as the 2002 H1N1-Q Flu Outbreak in Yoko.
Military
The Atogokan Military is fairly small in contrast to bigger nations. Pre-2010, the Atogokan Military was larger than it currently is today (2021), with the bulk of it designed to maintain an international presence and have some form of power projection. After the Defence Review of 2010, it was determined that a need for such a sizeable military was simply too costly and not necessary in the modern world, hence the cutback of multiple sections within the military. Costs were cut by 27-37% after the Defence Review of 2010, seeing almost 200,000-400,000 jobs lost throughout the military. It was deemed that in the modern global environment, power projection and international combat capabilities were less necessary for such a small nation like Atogoku, hence all military forces within the Atogokan Military were reformed into a more defensive role.
Atogoku's ground forces are specialised in defensive operations and thus aren't well equipped for combat outside of Atogoku's territory. Despite this, Atogoku operates a well equipped navy and air force.
The Atogokan Self Defense Force is the major ground force of the Atogokan Military with just under 150,000 active personnel at its disposal. The ATGKSDF is designed to act as a defensive unit operating within Atogokan territory and would find it difficult to operate outside the mainland on foreign territory. This shift towards a more defensive aspect for the force came since 2010 when the Defence Review of 2010 deemed it improbable the Atogoku would need a force capable of extreme operations outside of the mainland. Within the Atogokan Self Defense Force are multiple different units, all specialising in their own roles.
The Atogokan Airborne Self Defense Force is the biggest airborne force of Atogoku ahead of the much smaller Atogokan Royal Air Force, a smaller but more versatile force designed to operate outsdide of Atogoku and on international missions with allies. The ATGKASDF is once again, primarily designed more towarads protecting the airspace of Atogoku rather than operating interanationally on combat operations with allies. This led to the creation of the ATGKRAF which was a much smaller force satisfying the need to maintain a small yet versatile and effective international presence in the air. Both of these forces were reformed in the Defence Review of 2010.
The Atogokan Maritime Self Defense Force is the sole naval force for Atogoku in the Atogokan Military. As with the other forces, it was reformed in the Defence Review of 2010 to focus more on defending Atogokan waters instead of maintaining power projection and capabilities on the international stage. This saw the retirement of 2 Aircraft Carriers and 8 Guided-Missile cruisers as they were deemed unnecessary and too costly to keep operating. Now, in 2021, the ATGKMSDF primarily operates smaller vessels and frigates with little to no submarines. The ATGKMSDF also operates 8 Destroyers, though the combat readiness of 5 are heavily disputed. 1 Supercarrier and 3 smaller carriers are allegedly still in operation with the Supercarrier being a new 2017, Vector-Class model. Despite the moderness of the Supercarrier, it's still deemed heavily expensive and mostly unnecessary for Atogokan operations. Due to this, Dayashina (a close ally of Atogoku) helps operate the carrier with the agreement that the carrier can be used by Dayashima as well. The ATGKMSDF operate 28 frigates, most of which are specialised for certain roles like Anti-Submarine Warfare. The remaining in service 3 Cruisers are scheduled for retirement, a controversial decision given their still relatively young age.
Economy
The Atogokan Economy heavily relies on international trade and exports of their rich technological capabilies. A decade of economical stall ended in 2014 when since record growth has been recorded. The economies heavy growth was spearheaded by large Atogokan BioTech firms and Defence firms like Kakushin-Teki and Kolana-Domi. The country is seen as one of the leaders of BioTech research and holds almost 84% of worldwide market shares in the field. Atogoku is reliant on Dayashina for many joint ventures.
Heavy Industry
Heavy Industry has always been a small player in the Atogokan economy taking up just 1.4% of the entire Atogokan Economy. (ATGKN-ONS). Heavy Industry in Atogoku primarily consists of petroleum refining and iron manufacturing, though these fields aren't heavily developed.
Shipbuilding
Shipbuilding is one of the bigger players in the Atogokan economy, with a rich history behind it. 1990-1998 saw an incredibly steep decline in the shipbuilding industry after the nation transitioned away from the industry. Only recently, has shipbuilding begun to revitalise itself and begin to climb to the heights it was once at. Shipbuilding can be seen as part of Heavy Industry but is not recognised as that by the ATGKN-ONS. It is instead recognised as part of the Defence industry (including commercial ships).
