AleziRadio Festival of Songs 1993 is the thirty-sixth edition of the annual AleziRadio Festival of Songs. The competition was held as usual in 16th of May 1993 by the authorities of Radio Zafizamarrah. This is the thirteenth time that Zafizamarrah and the eleventh time that Metropolitan Zafizamarrah hosted the competition after the victory of Andi Haryani Tenriattang representing Zafizamarrah with the song "العمروسين". She also did the presentation of the show.

The festival was organized by the authorities of Radio Zafizamarrah and took place in Metropolitan Zafizamarrah, which is the capital of both the region of Zafizamarrah and the whole nation of North Alezia itself. Around this time, it's experiencing a population and economic boom, as foreign bussiness started flocking into the country after 5 years of openness.

This festival is the first festival and the first AleziRadio Television and Radio Production to be sponsored by a foreign company, in which Coca Cola sponsored the event in return of earning a permit to open a factory in North Alezia. (The factory would end up resulting in creating a new community outside of Metropolitan Zafizamarrah called "Al Makamira" or more known as "Coca-Cola Alezia". The company would continue sponsoring the show as 20% of its payment to the Alezian government from 1993 up to 1998.

The foreign sponsorship also inspires a change in the logo's language of the festival, where Coca Cola proposed a much more "modern" styling which prompted a new design by Ahlazanuuri Yalbari, a popular Alezian graphical designer.

The festival was held in the newly-built (at the time) Crystalia, which is a performing arts centre with a glass exterior which was an architectural marvel at the time, where critics applauded the building for its "interior and exterior creativity and harmony". The venue can hold 2,748 people with an orchestra pit and a scrutineer table located on the sides of the interior of the main theatre. Crystalia would end up being demolished in 2016 due to safety concern after an incident where the northern side of the glass walls got broken off nearly entirely.

Bonni Kalvin returned to the festival after earning third place last year representing Daya Island

Notable Happenings

Mukhlis Krasnaya Novogrody's Absence

Usually, the governing Premier of North Alezia would attend the year's AleziRadio Festival of Songs. This tradition has been held since 1958 until this year. Unusual for the premier at the time, his attendance was represented by the Speaker of the North Alezian parliament at the time, Nuharizi Yaflandarin.

The reason of Mukhlis' failure to attend was due to him being at Indonesia for a state visit. In his place, Mukhlis did a pre-recorded speech before the interval act. In the speech, Mukhlis apologized for his absence and talked about five years of Democracy in North Alezia and his hopes for its continuation and for it to be supported through music.

"Basna Menangis Melihatmu"

In 18th of January 1993, a sudden earthquake slams Basna, which created devastation in the region as it was the worst earthquake that have struck Alezia since 1834. It's possible that Mukhlis' absence from the year's festival was due to him in Indonesia trying to ask for disaster relief aid.

The disaster nearly forced the cancellation of the AleziRadio Festival of Songs and even more nearly pushed for Basna's withdrawal from that year's festival. However, Basnaharians wrote a petition that Basna still had to compete in grounds of "Preserverance"

As a reaction to the disaster, one of the singers that was selected to represent Basna after a regional final held on 17th of December 1992 named Niyaura Andarinda decided to ask Radio Basna Raya and her fellow same-region competitor Indah Wati Putri (Stagename "Rahmapoetri") to help her write a song about it which would end up being "Basna Menangis Melihatmu" which means "Basna Cries Looking At You".

The song would end up being the favourite to win the Festival and become one of the best songs to ever competed in the festival.
