Her parents were never married, though it is known that her mother was a doctoral candidate at the University of Kongsberg. She was raised by her father and his first wife, Alina Norström, who he had gotten back together with in late 2003 after separating in 2000. As the daughter of a medal-winning biathlete in one of Acrea's premier skiing and hiking regions, Norström states that she was born "practically with skis in her hands".
