Soldiers and a little group of officers, members of the People's Salamati Resistance Front, in military barracks in Ghafun and Dar Al Hamma, took control of their military bases and tried to take control of the Narqa Military Airport and the Presidential Palace. However, other military groups,loyal to Al Kharrabi, engaged in a fight against the rebels, which led to their surrender after 4 hours of fight.
The leader of the People's Salamati Resistance Front, Nordine Al Khasmi, was captured in June 1984, and executed.
