History
Colonial History
Boldonia's history begins in 1899 when Ferdinand Magellan discovered the Boldonian islands and noted them down. While there were natives on the islands before they were few and far between, with only temporary settlements being established. The first Spanish settlement on Boldonia was Eastisle City, then called Islaeste. Most settlementation on Boldonia revolved around plantations on Eastisle, with little effort being done to set up towns and communities.
US Territory
Pre-War
In 1899 Boldonia was captured by the United States during the Spanish-American War at the Battle of Eastisle. From then on Boldonia would remain a territory of the United States. In the early years Americans immigrated in droves to Boldonia, bringing the population up from a few thousand to several million.
World Wars
During World War I Boldonia was not part of the fighting, however several Boldonians were sent with the American Expeditionary Forces.
In World War II Boldonia would see direct conflict, as in late December 1941 the Japanese Empire would invade and successfully capture Boldonia. American forces had to withdraw while the Japanese began their occupation. Unlike other occupied lands the Japanese were relatively lenient on Boldonia, only setting up simple rules. Despite this leniency the Boldonian people still resented Japanese occupation, soon disorganized resistances were formed across the country.
Making use of whatever they could, the resistance disrupted Japanese operations in Boldonia for as long as they could before the US military could return, however with little organization their efforts proved futile. That was until a group from Florsid moved up north in an attempt to organize. This group was led by Gregory Simmons, up to this point the de facto leader of operations in Southern Boldonia. The resistance was organized into three fronts with Gregory Simmons leading the Southern Front, and also acting as leader of the entire effort.
For the remaining months the resistance would fight the Japanese, weakening them until US forces arrived. The US recapture of Boldonia was not a simple affair, and spanned several weeks with battles taking place across the entire island. But in the end Boldonia was recaptured and the US flag flew over Boldonia once again.
Cold War and Beyond
During the Cold War Boldonia was primarily used as a refueling are for US operations in Asia. By this time several Boldonians were part of the armed forces, with the military unofficially treating Boldonia as a state. During the Cold War Boldonia was not entirely safe, as with the Soviet Union sponsoring the communist nation of Brasilistan to the north.
During the 70s and 80s Boldonia would see massive growth, with the Interstate Highway System being expanded to Boldonia in 1971, with Interstate B1 being completed in 1984.
After the Cold War Boldonia remained a US territory. Several Boldonians would join the United States Armed Forces for wars in the Middle East.
Independence
Boldonia's status as a territory had been contentious, eventually soon that status had to be changed. Two camps emerged, one that wished for Boldonia to become the 51st State, and the other that wished for Boldonian independence. Eventually after careful consideration it had been decided that Boldonia could be granted its independence.
After independence Boldonia joined the UN and was integrated into NATO. In May several disagreements with Brasilistan eventually culminated in the Boldonian-Brasilistani War, which was very one sided and won by Boldonia easily. In July Boldonia, and by extension Boldonia's universe, was opened up to the multiverse.
