The vast majority of the world's countries, including all of the great powers, was invaded by otherworldly forces. Many participants threw their economic, industrial, and scientific capabilities behind this total war, blurring the distinction between civilian and military resources. Ballistic missiles and aircrafts played a major role, enabling strategic bombing of otherworlder bases and use of nuclear warheads as most modern weapons barely gave enough damage to the highly-advanced otherworlder technology.

It was a turning point where ordinary humans were transformed into superhumans, possessing extraordinary abilities beyond the confines of conventional human limitations. This unprecedented phenomenon had profound implications for humanity as a whole, triggering a series of far-reaching consequences that spanned social, political, and geopolitical realms.
 
The cataclysm was by far the second deadliest conflict in human history; with fatalities up to 30-40 millions, mostly among civilians. Tens of millions died due to massacres done by the overly-aggressive tactics used by otherworlders. In the wake of the otherworlders' retreat, multiple devastated regions were occupied, and the rise of new technological advancement and superhuman emergence occurred. The causes of the cataclysm are debated, but contributing factors included the possibility of weakening dimensional border between earth and other dimensions, triggered other civilizations to conquer others for resources and political status.
 
The cataclysm is generally considered to have begun on 13 May 2035, when dimensional anomalies appearing as a "glitch in the air" were spotted across the globe. The otherworlder forces subsequently came a year after. From late 2036 to 2038, in a series of battles and besieges, otherworlders conquered or controlled almost half of the Earth's land area. Following the onset of battles in Europe and the fall of China in mid-2036 and the fall of mid-west American states in 2037, the war continued primarily between the joint global military forces and the otherworlders. On 2038, otherworlders managed to conquer as far as Northern Europe.

In 2035,  anomalies were spotted accross the globe. Rampant appearances of wormholes--that'd later be known as "dimensional gates", started appearing in multiple countries. It was not until a year later where humanoid creatures known as otherworlders poured out of the gate, destroyed buildings and kidnapped everyone in their vicinity. Mainland China, and Mid-Western region of North America were the core location of these gates. The appearance of these gates resulted in heavy casualties and environmental disaster, as the area surrounding the portals were imbued with massive emanating mana, causing plants, and animals to grow abnormally.
 
The government of China mobilised their army to keep the otherworlders at bay, to no avail. Modern weaponries pose no threat to the advanced technology of the otherworlders. With their advanced weaponries and massive armies, the chinese government decided to use nuclear warheads, and citizens were evacuated to neighbouring cities and countries. Nuclear warheads were launched to the regions of Hebei and Shaanxi. Despite taking damages, as gates keep appearing, otherworlders managed to invade and took control of Beijing in May 2036. They managed to reach Manchuria by August 2036, with some already going to the Korean peninsula, and Siberia. The southern part of the country remained the only ones surviving, with much of the Chinese military stationed along the Yangtze river.
 
Meanwhile in Japan, gates appeared in Fukushima and Nagasaki, where otherworlders also started coming in, though seemingly from a different faction than China's. The otherworld army, composed of undeads, started advancing towards populated cities such as Tokyo and Osaka. Cities, villages were destroyed, and dead people were resurrected by a Lich, which increased the amount of the otherworlders' army. Japan suffered both heavy casualties as well as environmental disaster, as the existence of undead army caused the surrounding nature to decay. Japan was allowed to use ballistic missile and aircraft carrier to prevent the otherworlders from reaching Osaka and Tokyo, despite the futile effort.
 
Other parts of the globe also suffered the same fate, most notably the United States, where much of the mid-west territories, including Michigan and Ohio fell into otherworlders' control by early 2037. The United States government, under the rule of Kemala Harrison, were pushed by the Truman brothers (Eric and Barron) into using nuclear warheads to defend the east coast states from the otherworlders and regain control of Ohio and Michigan, but refused, and kept on using the available armed forces, despite the protest and casualties. This would later lead to [[2041 American Dissolution]]. Portals appearing in latin and south America also ravaged most of the western part of the continent, however, Amazonian rainforest remain safe as otherworlders couldn't get past the forest.
 
Meanwhile, on spring 2037, otherworlders have reached {{wp|North Korea}}, and was at their closest proximity to Pyongyang. Kim Jong-Han, the supreme leader of {{wp|North Korea}} at that time, ordered the use of nuclear warheads to defend the territory. The northern part of the country was obliterated, and many otherworlders died, but gates keep appearing at an alarming rate, causing the North Korean army to be overwhelmed in a day. Due to the aging weaponry and lack of help from neighbouring countries, eventually otherworlders managed to take control of Pyongyang.  Kim Jong-Han died in September 2037.  As North Korea fell into otherworlders' control, South Korea was in full alert, citizens were evacuated mostly to the southern part of the country, causing chaos especially in Daejeon and Busan. The province of Gyeonggi-do and Gangwon-do including the capital city Seoul, Sejong City was emptied, and military conscripts were drafted to Seoul and along the DMZ by winter 2037 under the order of president Kim Jun-Seok.
 
Due to the overwhelming refugees heading towards the north, the far eastern part of {{wp|Russia}} was used as temporary residences for chinese, japanese and korean refugees. It was relatively safe, although battles were raging in the southern part, mostly in Vladivostok and the Amur region. The otherworlders seemingly stopped their attack by early 2038, and concrete walls were soon erected, to prevent otherworlders from going further north. Harsh conditions of Siberia and its surroundings, was also another factor that stopped the otherworlders from advancing. Central Asian countries were assisted by the Russian government in attacking the otherworlders; with ICBMs being used to fend them off. It was a rather successful attempt, compared to China.
 
Western Asian countries such as {{wp|Afghanistan}} were invaded by otherworlders from Europe, and was destroyed fairly quickly. Turkish government assisted Syria and Lebanon on defending the levant from otherworld invasion. Otherworlders only reached Aleppo in May 2038, as the hive mind most likely changed the strategy and ordered the monsters to go east. {{wp|Saudi Arabia}} and gulf countries, were considered as the only safe place other than {{wp|New Zealand}} and {{wp|Antarctica}} during the invasion. The harsh, dry desert condition of the country prevented the otherworlders from reaching the country, much of the Northern Africa above the great desert only suffered minor damages as otherworlders couldn't get past the desert from the devastated south. Southeast Asian countries suffered minor damages, with much of the gates only appeared in the Borneo. The joint ASEAN military were dispatched to hunt the otherworlders in Borneo, although heavy damages and casualties occurred. The battle stalled for months along {{wp|Kapuas river}}.
 
Most of the islands in the Oceanian region suffered from amphibian otherworlders' attacks. The otherworlders managed to reach the eastern coastlines of Australia by early 2038. The region of Queensland suffered heavy casualties, and was rendered as inhabitable due to the use of ICBM by the Australian government. New Zealand was the only safe place as otherworlders couldn't reach the island, and gates were rather lacking.
 
European countries were invaded by the otherworlders coming from the UK. Dimensional gates appeared along the coast of Brighton, with most of the monsters were either aquatic or amphibic. Some managed to pass the strait to France, which, subsequently also reached Netherlands, Belgium, and Germany. The Scandinavian countries were relatively safe, but was later invaded in summer 2038. Copenhagen and Stockholm was taken control by the otherworlders at the end of August 2038. But Finland and Norway managed to survive due to the inability of otherworlders surviving in the winter.

As dimensional gates were emanating a massive amount of mana, not only they affect plants and animals, but they also affect humans to have their DNA altered, causing them to awaken a superhuman ability. Nam Ki-Hyun, the current president of Orientia was among one of the first human to be awakened as a superhuman. Awakened along with Ki-Hyun were other people in close proximity to the gates, mainly in South Korea. They'd later form a group "Baekdusan", led by Ki-Hyun and Kim Tae-Yong, to hunt otherworlders and gain back control of Earthen territories from them. The group soon supported the Korean military forces in the DMZ in the winter of 2038, liberating much of the {{wp|Kaesong}} and later Pyongyang in early 2039. Knowing traditional weaponries imbued with mana worked much better against otherworlders, the group would later lead the operation with Korean military forces giving support attacks and hospitalities. North Korea and Manchuria were liberated by April 2039.

Several groups similar to Baekdusan also appeared in other parts of the globe. Most notably Iskra (Russia), Avalon Knights (Western Europe), Garuda (Southeast Asia), Wudang Clan (China, named after their liberation of Mt.Wudang), The Patriots (U.S and Canada), Ingwe Mnyama (South Africa), Migaloo (Australia) and the Los Yaguar Hermanos (Panama, and Latin America). These groups successfully liberated parts of their respective regions, and otherworlders were soon pushed back to retreat to their dimensions. The remaining otherworlders took refuge in Minneapolis and Xining by the end of 2039.


A global awakened meeting was held in Truman tower in New York, at February 2040. All groups were later transformed into guilds, and held a joint mission "Operation Humanity", with teams split into two; one headed to Minneapolis, and one headed to Xining. By Fall 2040, otherworlders were successfully pushed back, despite a threatening ultimatum heard by both groups near the gates; telling the Monarchs will be back. It is still an unsolved mystery until this day regarding the message. Remaining gates were forcefully closed right on Christmas 2040. Celebration were held for days until January 2, 2041.

Computer systems malfunctioned, communication networks experienced intermittent disruptions, and power grids displayed irregular fluctuations. The exact cause of these anomalies remained a mystery, leaving scientists and experts puzzled and intrigued.
The global cataclysm was deemed as the "failure" of the United Nations in defending the Earth from otherworlder forces. A conflict of interest soon followed between the anti-U.N movement led by {{wp|Eric Trump|Eric Truman}} and [[Roman Skakunov]] and a coalition of individual U.N nations in Europe. This encouraged the Secretariat of the United Nations to officially involve itself in the conflict to stabilize the system and deter further aggression.


Persistent and widespread chaos of the decade past would result in protests across the globe to dissolve the U.N. Debates were held for weeks from April 2041 to May 2041. As a result of the conflict, the {{wp|United States}} as the official member of its security council, also suffered from differing ideals between the "blue" states and the "red" states as to whether the U.N. should exist or not. This conflict would later lead to the dissolution of the Union, and from the remaining states would form their own countries, such as the re-emergence of the {{wp|Confederate States of America}} and {{wp|California|Californian Republic}}, as well as the creation of new states such as {{wp|New England|Republic of New England}}.

It works in a similar sense as radioactive elements. It is even possible to consider mana radiation as radioactivity.

Countless humans were exposed to mana, and as such, some awakened a superhuman ability and called themselves "hunters" (as in, hunting the otherworlders), and some fell into sickness, caused by mana poisoning due to their weak constitution couldn't withstand the excessive mana charge from the gates. Humans with mana poisoning were treated in hospitals, various methods of draining mana from their bodies were enacted but deemed to dangerous. As such, mana poisoning is still a worldwide issue and only symptom-relieving treatments are given.

On the other hand, awakened humans that are in guild(s) later formed a national hunter associations in their respective countries, aiming to census and manage all existing hunters, in order to keep harmony between them, as well as giving proper education regarding utilizing mana as "anima" to be used for combat, healing, or everyday activities.

This conflict, sparked by a political clash between the factions led by Mugen and Tianshi in the nation of Amenria, marked a significant chapter in the history of the Awakened. Mugen, dissatisfied with the existing monarchy, organized rebels and formed the Rising Dawn faction, leading to a full-scale rebellion against Emperor Tianshi's regime. The war, characterized by intense battles and the clash of superhuman abilities, ravaged the land and divided communities. The War of Dusk and Dawn, alongside its devastating impacts, played a crucial role in shaping the future of Amenria and the broader geopolitical landscape.
Although dimensional gates were closed, some remained open as they were either too large, or too complex to be closed. Some dimensional gates even started appearing again, but no otherworlders on sight as these gates are merely "tunnels" that were opened naturally, and not "artifically-made" similar to otherworlder gates. These gates still pose threats to humanity as abnormal growth to its surroundings and different atmospheric attributes inside the gates would cause harm to careless humans, but gives opportunity for economic and technological advancements.


Seemingly-unlimited mana charges from the gates are collected by companies to be used as electricity source. These excessive mana charge would also sometimes enchant the geographical environment around it, resulting in the emergence of [[mana ores]] and enchanted [[ores]] that poses great economic reward for countries with large amount of gates. These ores can be forged into weaponries and tools. Daily necessities and works have became much more efficient with the help of these enchanted ores. The prime example of mana ores being used for weaponries are {{wp|lightsabers}}. This weapon was only part of a fictional work up until the existence of mana ores were known to humanity. In a similar fashion to how lightsabers work in the particular sci-fi work, mana ore was put inside a sword hilt. A hunter would imbue the sword hilt with his anima, and the mana ore inside would react and emanate a controlled beam, shaped by the {{wp|rifling}} inside the hilt.
