The Ministry of State Security is one of the primary organs of the Posadastani state apparatus. In 1986, 11 years after being founded, it was merged directly with the Posadist Revolutionary Union (PRU)'s Council for Disciplinary Inspection and the Red Liberation Army (RLA)'s information and intelligence wing. They have since been granted some autonomy since 2010, but the entire ministry still coordinates heavily with the military and the party.

History

Contemporary Activities

Organization

The MSS is made up of multiple constituent bureaus, the exact number and functions of these bureaus are unknown, but some have been made public over time.

Internal Security Bureau (ISB)

This bureau acts as Posadastan's secret police, conducting counterespionage, counterintelligence, and large-scale surveillance throughout Posadastan. See Internal Security Bureau (ISB).

CyberSecurity Bureau (CSB)

This force deals primarily with cyberspace. Posadastan retains a relatively isolated internet, with most Posadi servers being physically air gapped and a national firewall put in place. While the internet is somewhat connected to the global Telrovan internet, it is only connected in a few spots, these few spots (mostly certain antenna towers and fiber optic cables) are heavily monitored and controlled to prevent unwanted or censored foreign media from getting in. They are also known to regularly carry out DDoS attacks on foreign servers and websites that attempt to circumvent the firewall and filters put in place (Similar to China’s “Great Firewall” and North Korea’s “Kwangmyong”). They also enforce bans on VPNs and other "subsersive technologies."

Propaganda and Information Bureau (PIB)

Responsible for actively censoring and monitoring all printed and physical media in Posadastan (as well as printed media moving into or out of the country, and “physical” includes news broadcasting and radio services). They are also tasked with developing active propaganda and dissemination campaigns to build up the party and break down the influence and support of the enemy. In recent years, they’ve worked to utilize AI and social media algorithms to slowly feed propaganda to the population (especially young people), rather than putting it outright and publicly. This also means that the PIB has a large amount of control over the educational and national media systems.

External Security Bureau (ESB)

Responsible for ISB-like activities abroad, as well as protection of Posadi overseas staff & embassies and the monitoring/infiltration of foreign protest and rebel movements. Also acts as an “open line” for all Posadi officials working abroad.

Political and Economic Intelligence Bureau (PEIB)

Gathers economic, political, and scientific information from other countries and companies. Also collects strategic political and economic international information.

Enterprise Bureau (EB)

Manages and communicates with all Posadi front companies abroad.

Immigration and Border Bureau (IBB)

Monitors the borders alongside the military, vets and investigates all foreigners in Posadastan as well as tourists, refugees, exiles, asylum-seekers, and legal-immigrants. Also checks over airports, seaports, and most large roads and railroads to patrol commerce and the flow of people into and out of Posadastan, as well as between different internal regions. They are also responsible for monitoring and vetting all emigrants seeking to leave Posadastan or otherwise travel abroad.

Re-Education Bureau (REB)

Little is known about this Bureau, and it is often considered a part of the ISB that targets, tortures, "re-educates," and sometimes kills dissidents or forces them to do hard labor.
