Aral'sk is a major language spoken in Boratstans, closely related to the Kaspian language. Together, they are known as the "Lake Languages," named after the Aral'sk Sea and Kaspian Sea. Aral'sk has 8.4 million native speakers in the Aral'sk Republic and at least 400,000 native speakers outside of the republic. The language shares its vowels, most letters, and their pronunciations with Kaspian.
Aral'sk and Kaspian are also known for the use of letters with double dots (ä, ë, ï, ö, ÿ), which are followed by "y" sound (J in Aral'sk pronunciation). Additionally, Aral'sk has a complex use of the apostrophe (known as Čářka in Aral'sk) in many words. It is mainly used after letters with double dots or in words that are a combination of two words.
