The Union of Rightists was the major political party in Elizea between the 1920s and 1950s. In 1962 the party merged, together with the Liberal Union and the Christian Democracy, into the People's Party.
Ideology
In the 1910s the UDD combined conservatism with protectionist economic policies. At the end of the 1910s the UDD made a dramastic shift away from protectionism to economic liberalism. Protection of family values and opposition to the creation of a welfare state. Gradually the UDD became more open to the creation of a welfare state, which resulted in coalition governments with the social liberal Democratic Union. In the 1930s, 1940s and 1950s the UDD governed together with the Democratic Union. In this period a welfare state was created, a land value tax was introduced and the size of the army was more doubled.
