The Kingdom of Trjebia1 (Trjebian: Dhredhri), also known as the Former Kingdom of Trjebia (FKT) in international relations due to the Trjebian dispute, but self-referred to as Trjebia, is a Nelborne country in northwestern Europe. Bordering Alquiya to the south and Seketan to the north and east, the Kingdom of Trjebia is situated on the western shore of Nelbecia. The country is a city-state, with over 95% of its land urbanised. Trjebia's population is 423,886 (2016) most of whom live in urban areas. The country's climate is temperate for the Nelborne islands, with warmer winters and summers then the rest of the islands due to the Treb Bay helping bring in warm air. The country is the most densely populated in the Nelborn Islands, with the capital Dremem being a centre of gambling, commerce, financial services, and shipping for the Nelborne Islands.

The history of Trjebia dates back to the early neolithic period, with the earliest humans to Nelbecia settling around the Treb Bay and its warm fertile hinterlands in central Nelbecia. Over thousands of years these peoples would coeles themselves into clans know as the Thirteen Kingdoms. In 1092 these kingdoms unified into a loose confederation with the kingdom of Jorghe and its king Eridh I being crowned the first King of the Trebs. During the subsequent centuries, the confederation would find itself routinely at war with the neighbouring Kingdom of Seketan, Kingdom of Alquiya, and later Nelbec Empire. These wars would cause Trjebia to gradually lose control over central Nelbecia and by 1895 all but the capital city of Dremem was annexed in the partitions of Trjebia. The 20th century saw Trjebia adopt a policy of neutrality, staying out of WWI and the Nelborne War, and thus came into the mid century relatively untouched.

Starting in the 1960's, Trjebia became a tax-haven and attracted many European and American companies to invest in Trjebian financial institutions like Bank of Trjebia and Jorghe Bank., skyrocketing the economy into being one of the richest in the world. Coinciding with this, in 1974 the Legislative Assembly legalised gambling leading to a boom in the casino and entertainment industry, making it often known as the "Las Vegas of Nelborne". Today Trjebia is a member of the UN, WTO, Council of Europe, and the Partnership for Peace.

Etymology

The term Trjebia is an anglicised version Dhredhri meaning "godly kingdom" in Trjebian. Only translations of Trjebia include the prefix "Kingdom of" or "Former Kingdom of , in Trjebian the full name is just Dhredhri. In Alquiyan Trjebian the nation is known as Pkoty Treiau Treh, though it is pronounced virtually the same.

Kingdom of vs Former Kingdom of

Currently there is an international dispute over the prefix of Trjebia. The official English name is the Kingdom of Trjebia, but this is only recognized internationally by Seketan. In international diplomacy the nation is referred to as the Former Kingdom of Trjebia largely due to the objections by Alquiya, who claim that they hold an equal claim to the continuation of the historical Kingdom of Trjebia.

History

Prehistory

Human first arrived in what is now known as the Treb Bay during the early Neolithic era, settling around the basin in central Nelbecia. Part of the Sjezon people, Trjebian and Trebs were just one of many now extinct cultures southern Nelborne. For nearly a millennium they existed largely symbiotically with Nelbecs in the north around Lake Seketan, with minor trade and relations between the two cultures. These groups form the root for two of the three culture families in the Nelborne Islands, with the Nelbecs eventually forming into the Sekens, Wilsks, and later Alquiyans, and the Sejzons going on to be reduced to just the Trjebians and coastal Sjezons.

Early states started to form in the 4th century centered around local towns. This is argued by scholars to be the start of Trjebia's complex clan system.

Map of the Trjebian clans

In the early 6th century, Trjebia's regional clans began to solidify into local fiefdoms, led by Chiefs (Ebheszī in Trjebian). These fiefdoms entered into alliances, signed treaties, and generally participated in the medieval politics of the Nelborne. By the 9th century, the Kingdoms of Dremmem became more powerful and dominated the region around...

Politics

The Kingdom of Trjebia is a semi-constitutional monarchy with a democratically elected legislature. The head of government and chief executive, the Prime Minister, is appointed by the Monarch after approval from the Legislative Assembly. This means the Prime Minister must typically hold a majority of seats, either through their party or a coalition. The Monarch can choose to reject the Legislature's approved candidate for Prime Minister, though this hasn't happened since 1980. Upon appointment, the Prime Minister forms a cabinet and informs the Monarch of its makeup. A 1983 High Court ruling declared that the Monarch must approve the Prime Minister's cabinet.

Since the establishment of an elected Legislative Assembly in 1930, the conservative United Trjebia Society (GBD) has been the most dominant and consistent party, governing nearly unbroken from 1930 to 1979. During this period liberal opposition was split between many factions which occasionally formed together into various Liberal Parties before breaking apart. In 1994 these factions regrouped again into the current Liberal Alliance (RA), which formed government in 1999 and was relected for the first time in 2003. On the left the Socialist Party and Green League shared support until 2007 when they merged into the Left-Green Alliance (Ņ-Oa).
