The Capitol District of Dremem (Trjebia: Ghadhal Ardherm Dhremem), often informally referred to as Dremem, is the central business district and political centre of the city-state of Trjebia and the wider city of Dremem. Located in the northwest and western portions of the city, the district is dominated by large skyscrapers and Trjebia's royal harbour It is not a city, rather just one of four districts in the city. It holds most of the country's political and judicial institutions: the National palace, the government, the Legislative assembly (parliament of Trjebia), and the courts.
Geography
The Capitol District is one of the four administrative districts of Dremem; the others are Szejadha (North), Jeņadh (East), and Mībher (South). It is located at the western end of the city, taking up most of Trjebia's coastline. In the north, the district is dominated by the cities central business district, with large skyscrapers and the royal harbour and a majority of embassies. Inland and to the east is the National Palace, home of the Trjebian Monarchy as well as many important government offices. Further south becomes more residential, notably marked with the expat neighborhoods of Little Seketan and Americaland.
History
Much of what is now central Dremem has historically been purposefully neglected for military purposes. When the city of Dremem was formally established in 1722 by royal decree, city planners chose to leave any land within 3km of the coast line undeveloped to make it easier to defend. This led to the growth of many shanty towns within this gap, which city planners did little about to further hinder any potential invaders. These towns developed over time to be some of the densest settlements in the Nelborne. Exact numbers are hard to come by, given the technically illegal nature of them and the often purposeful lack of reporting by the Trjebian government, but some figures list between 40,000-70,000 inhabitants per square kilometer. Services within the area were very poor and crime was high, though a distinct culture grew amongst residence of the zone.
Outside this area, most of what is now the Capitol District developed much like the rest of Dremem, and the lines between each district were . The current royal palace was built in 1803 on the grounds of its former summer residence after the fall of its old residence outside the city. Central Dremem would remain mostly unchanged for the next century, until the 1960's when Trjebia's economy grew exponentially with a rise in its banking and gambling sector. In 1966, the government of Trjebia started to demolish the settlements within the 3km zone to make way for a new central business district, evicting all residents and demolishing all the buildings, with most moving to new housing developments in the east of the city or to Bynan, Seketan.
Today the central district houses many Trjebian and international HQ's, such as Bank of Trjebia, Rezon Finances, Fjedar Group, and Potan Szeje.
