The Guldliga is the highest level of the Eldmarsk football league system. With 16 clubs, it operates on a system of promotion and relegation with the Eldmarsk Football Union. Typically, seasons run from September to April, with each team playing 30 matches against all other teams, both home and away. Games are typically played on Saturdays and Sundays, however games can sometimes be played on weekdays.
The Guldliga was initially created in 1923 between 8 teams: IFK Hammarvik, Djurbruka FK, Stalkulle IK, FK Grönsund, ISS Juniskaren, Vitberg FK, Klubb Arucian, and Erikstad Forbund, the latter of which have since been relegated to the Silverliga, but still exist. Some clubs, such as IFK Hammarvik, have existed for much longer, tracing its founding back to 1898. The Guldliga has ran for an uninterrupted 88 years, only paused by the Great War.
The Guldliga, as with association football, is the most-watched sports league in Eldmark. 22 clubs have competed at one point within the Guldliga, and 13 have won at least one Eldmarsk Cup. The current champions are Djurbruka FK, who won their 7th title on 22nd of April, 2023. The Guldliga enjoys particularly lucrative contracts with ELT, particularly their sports subsidiary, ELT Sport (also known as EL2).
