Conventions of the Kurultai
A Kurultai was traditionally convened for matters of great importance and magnitude, such as the election of a Khan. A Kurultai is named after the location in which it is convened; for example, the Hovd Kurultai was convened in the city of Hovd. Thus far, four all-Mongol conventions of the Kurultai have been held (other, non-"ecumenical" Kurultai conventions have been held, for example in the Golden Horde.
