Gurkaniyan, officially the Emirate of Gurkaniyan (Persian: Amart Gurkaniyan; Uzbek: Gurkaniyan Amirligi) and commonly known by the endonym Turan, is a sovereign state in Central Asia, in a personal union with the Mongol Uls. Coming into existence with the fall of the Soviet Union, the Emirate was conceived as a continuation of the ancient Timurid Empire, under the rule of one of Timur's (supposed) descendents, Aurangzeb III. The Emirate is ruled as a constitutional monarchy under Sharia law; legislation, drawing on Sharia, is passed by the Majlis ash-Shura, which also elects the Khalifa (who holds the dual title of Chancellor) for a four-year term.

Etymology

"Gurkaniyan" derives from the Persian word for "son-in-law". Originally, Gurkaniyan was the term for the imperial dynasty of the Timurid Empire, referring to Tamerlane's status as the metaphorical "son-in-law" of Chinggis Khan. However, this term later grew to refer to the Empire as a whole.
