The Pacific Basketball League (PBL) is a men's professional basketball league in western North America, composed of 20 teams (11 in New California and 9 in Willamette) divided equally between the Northern and Southern Conferences. It is one of the "big five" major professional sports leagues in New California and Willamette, and is considered to be the premier men's professional basketball league on the West Coast.
The league was founded in 2033 in the wake of the Second American Civil War. In accordance with the Adversary Sports Act of the same year, five teams– the Portland Trail Blazers, Sacramento Kings, Golden State Warriors, Los Angeles Lakers, and Los Angeles Clippers –were expelled from the National Basketball Association (NBA). The PBL's inaugural season came in 2034 after the addition of the refounded Seattle SuperSonics. Since then, 14 new teams have joined in four expansions. The most recent expansion came in 2046, with the additions of the Yakima Cranes, Fresno Ash, San Jose Winchesters, and the Coachella Valley Suns.
The team to most recently win the championship is the Golden State Warriors, having won their third title in 2047 and becoming record co-holders for most championships, along with the rival Los Angeles Clippers. The Sacramento Kings, having been a team since 1923, have never won a championship in almost 100 years, their last coming in 1951 as the Rochester Royals.
