The Second American Civil War, often abbreviated as the 2ACW or alternatively known as the "Death of America," was an armed conflict involving almost the majority of the North American continent that lasted from 2031 until 2049, when the Great Collapse occurred. A multi-sided and multi-faceted war, the Second American Civil War often draws many parallels by scholars, specifically to many civil wars in Africa and the Middle East, and additionally the Spanish Civil War, due to the war being considered, at times, a class struggle, a race war, a religious conflict, a political conflict, and a period of anarchy reminiscent of the overall breakdown of American society. The War had two phases, an active phase during the early to mid part of the 2030s, in which the United States government under President Rand Paul collapsed in the face of military defections and internal political strife, lasting until a lull in combat in 2036 that was followed by a "cool" period, that saw sporadic, regional, on-and-off warfare until the Great Collapse in 2049.

The War began after a second "Unite the Right" rally held in Seattle in 2031, intentionally made to provoke left-wing activists. After the Battle of Seattle took place, the political situation within the United States and Canada began to rapidly spiral out of control, erupting into full blown civil war weeks later after coordinated terrorist attacks on the United States power grid by the far-right extremist group ATOMWAFFEN. Due to longstanding social, economic, and political polarization having been going on since 2008 to 2014, the majority of the United Sates Armed Forces and its' Veterans defected to various right wing militias, though defections to left wing militias were not uncommon. What was left of the Federal Government quickly regrouped around Washington DC and a handhold of other stronghold areas in an attempt to maintain power, and President Rand Paul was couped by General David L. Goldfein, resulting in a second US Government being formed in Washington. In response to the new emergency head of the Federal Government of the United States being Jewish, many militias declared the new US Government the "final evolution of ZOG" and called it illegitimate.

The next few months would see multiple cities and even entire states fall to extremist militias on both sides, with areas such as Vermont and part of Massachusetts being annexed into part of the "Free Peoples' Republic of America," whereas Portland and most of Oregon fell into the hands of the Salem Soviet. Montana and a large amount of southern Alberta and Saskatchewan fell to the "White Peoples' Republic," only stopped from expanding northwards by remnants of the Canadian and American militaries, and parts of local Native and First Nations Militias. The borders and vectors of power would shift from region to region, though a definite right wing victory was achieved by 2034, and the remaining part of the civil war was fought mainly in between various militia groups that had previously been on the same side, such as when the Gilead Compact under Kanye West invaded Texas, only to be repulsed at the Battle of Lubbock. As the war progressed, all sides involved became increasingly more and more radicalized and resorted to more brutal measures to ensure victory, resulting in the Southern and Pacific Genocides, and attempted genocides and mass executions across the continent.

As the war entered a cold period starting in 2036 and 2037, the majority of the conflict began to slow down and become more sporadic and regional, largely affecting areas in the Northeast, Pacific Northwest, and in areas in the Southeast that were heavily affected by climate change and sea level rise. It was during the cold period that the majority of mass executions and genocides took place, with groups having already established control of certain regions attempting to solidify power by removing "undesirables" and "political threats."

Due to the United States being taken out of power, many other world and regional powers, namely the European Union, Russia, India, Iran, Israel, and China, attempted to take the place of the United States, and quickly began to fight one another either openly or covertly in an effort to prevent others from taking control of regions or various strategic goals. Additionally, thousands of volunteers, mainly from Mexico, the Caribbean, and Europe, fought on the front lines in the United States and Canada as volunteers for every side involved. Foreign military missions from the European Union and the Peoples' Republic of China operated on American and Canadian shorelines, though the majority of them experienced heavy amounts of insurgency from anti-Liberal and anti-Communist groups and acts of sabotage were a near daily occurrence.

Due to the majority of agriculture being put on hold and food imports being unable to reach people, the majority of casualties during the Second American Civil War were civilians, with around 160,000,000+ dying due to starvation and famine. Additionally, with factors from genocide and the war itself counted in, around 200,000,000 of North America's around 537 million died, or around 36-38% of the entire North American population.

Background and Buildup

Start of Combat

Initial Phase

Late 2031

- Violence explodes across the United States, Canada, and Northern Mexico during the early part of 2031, and experiences a lull during the Spring and Summer as the world and the local area begins to realize the extent as to what is happening.

- Combat begins to resume in late summer as more members of the military defect to various militia groups.

Southern Campaign

- The first major campaign of the 2ACW is the Southern Campaign, which spanned all across the Southern United States, from rural Virginia to SoCal and Texas. It would become representative of many other campaigns, with left wing militias occupying major urban areas and some rural areas, while right wing groups occupied most rural and suburban areas, and various other groups occasionally appeared dotted throughout the American South.

- The United States military was more unified at this time, and would remain so until the Battle of Nashville, in which Right Wing militia groups that had captured Nashville from local left-wing groups held out for over a month against the US Military, inflicting heavy casualties and causing a loss of morale amongst the US Soldiers, some of whom would defect during the battle.

- California quickly falls to left wing groups and ethnic infighting, only to be held off a little past the New Mexico border by the New Mexico National Guard.

- Black Nationalist Militia Groups rose up in and around the Black Belt and in urban areas, fighting White Identity militias (and causing a few to form). Left-wing militias would be divided on the Black Militia issue, resulting in the situation escalating into almost complete chaos.

- The US Military attempted to push southwards and launch invasions of occupied cities and towns, as well as trying to do a sweep of most rebel areas. This would meet only with mixed success.

- The campaign would end with the US Military partially dissolving as various groups defected to different rebel groups or forming their own.

Goldfein Coup

- In response to the partial collapse of the US Military, General David L. Goldfein, along with a few other military officers and politicians, launches a soft coup of the US Government, putting what territory remains under Federal Control directly under military jurisdiction with the attempt of restoring order as quickly as possible.

- Goldfein's Coup is largely successful, with the US Military retaining command and control of most Naval and Coast Guard Assets, a small majority of Air Force Assets, most Space Force Assets, and control over most of the US Nuclear Arsenal.

- Goldfein's government is recognized by most world leaders as being the "legitimate" US Government, with the exception of some countries, such as Russia, Iran, and China, who outright deny it, or places like Hungary, Israel, and Bolivia, who refuse to recognize one group.

- Due to Goldfein's Jewish heritage, right wing groups experience a surge in recruitment and terror as many claim that the Goldfein government is the "final evolution of ZOG." This leads to many right wing cells launching attacks in and around the Midwest and Rust Belt, such as Chicago, which erupts into violence.

Main Phase

Mid 2032

Collapse of US Government

- Goldfein is assassinated during a speech by members of the US Military with ties to various far-right groups. The US Government promptly collapses as most of the people involved in keeping it going either flee the country or die in the attack.

- Goldfein is generally regarded as a man who tried his best to save the United States, sort of an American Kolchak or Constantine XI Palaiologos.

- Beginning in 2032, a variety of other leaders began a overarching Christian Identity militia called the Gilead Compact, a name ironically used after Gilead from The Handmaid's Tale. The Gilead Compact united a broader front of Christian Identity militias. This soon became one of the larger groups in the American West and South, and spent most of their time fighting the Government and Mormons.

- Following the Anarchy in California in 2034, the GC received an influx of fighters and attempted to push both Eastward and Northeasterly, up into Southern Utah and through New Mexico and Arizona, before pushing into Northern Texas.

- ISIS style blitz using technicals and looted equipment, quickly push in but meet lots of isolated resistance from a ton of different groups, with the largest being the Texas National Guard, the AIM-SW Militias and Reservation Troops, and the Deseret Defense Force.
