Adeodata Haddad de Saabi, Lady Haddad de Saabi, HC RL DSP (born 2 April 1975) is a Sydalene is a Sydalene politician. She previously served as Chancellor of Sydalon from October 2017 until her resignation during the Sydalene Revolution in January 2018. She previously represented Pons Veii in the National Assembly, and also served on the Assembly Foreign Affairs Committee.
Haddad de Saabi is the third woman to be appointed Chancellor of Sydalon and the first appointment of Queen Melisende III's reign. During her time in the National Assembly, Haddad de Saabi was often referred to as level-headed by her peers and a member of the progressive wing within In Avante. Throughout her political career she has called for greater ties to Belisarian nations.
Early life and education
Adeodata Haddad was born to parents Dido (née: Bakra) and Deusdedit Haddad. Her father is of Variagoi descent and her mother is of Alalian descent. She is the youngest of four children, with three older brothers: Eraric, Sigeric and Michael. Her maternal grandparents were forcibly converted from Judaism in the 1940s during the Alalian Troubles.
Haddad attended Balzac University and graduated with a Master of Law degree in 1998. While at university, Haddad joined the Radical Party youth student organization, though admitted that she only attended a handful of meetings before dropping out of the organization; she joined the Youth Democratic Movement in her second semester.
Career
Legislative career
Haddad de Saabi was first elected to the Popular Assembly in 2012 as list member of In Avante. During her first term she sponsored or co-sponsored no legislation, though sat on the Assembly's Committee of Foreign Affairs. She was described as unremarkable by peers near the end of her first term and was removed from the party list prior to the next election.
After being removed from the party list, Haddad de Saabi stood for the Assembly seat in Pons Veii. Following a close election, she was victorious after gaining 42% of the vote and returned to the Senate. She continued in her position on the Foreign Affairs Committee and took a key role in seeing Sydalon join the Belisarian Customs Union. She often spoke of her desire to see Sydalon join the Community as a full member state.
Chamber of Peers
Haddad de Saabi was appointed to the Chamber of Peers as a Lady of the Realm by Queen Melisende III in 2017. She was elected to the chamber following the 2018 Peers election as a life peer.
Chancellery
On 11 October 2017, Haddad de Saabi was appointed Chancellor of Sydalon by Queen Melisende III. Haddad de Saabi was simultaneously made a Lady of the Realm to enable her to meet the constitutional requirements to serve as First Minister and serve on the Council of Nobles. She resigned from her Assembly Seat after her appointment and became the first Assembly member to be appointed to the position.
Sydalene Revolution
Opposition leader
In June 2018, Haddad de Saabi became leader of Modern Left, which was formed out of former members of In Avante. By the end of June, she became Leader of the Opposition as leader of the Senate's second largest party or coalition.
Personal life
Haddad de Saabi married Asbadus Saabi, an investment banker, in 2001 while she was employed as an international attorney at an Ostracine law firm. Her husband is the grandson of Gisco IV, Lord of Araman. She has three children with Saabi, Deusdedit (b. 2002), Gisco (b. 2005), and Belandra (b. 2014).
Haddad de Saabi is a practicing Fabrian Catholic, and attends service weekly. She has stated that growing up her family would attend mass at least twice-a-week.
